Been starting to play this LP again. What a great wee gem this is. I don't think any of the other Rats Albums come close to this one. Just poor rock at it's best. Not one bad song here. Night fell fast, like it did in the passed. What more is there to say. Can't stop. If anyone even thinks that the rats are/were a one hit wonder, they need to sit back plug the ears back and let rip on this one. People out there do not know what they are missing. Forget your Mondays more too this wee band than meet's the eye.

Ido love this album but love all their albums in different ways so diverse each lp has it's own strengths and you are right about not knowing what their missing. The media didn't help watched a prog on tv about music that influenced the years1978 & 1979 rats were not even mentioned ( the usual guff sting & his pigs blondie etc ) so I ended up turning off and playing five deep to cheer myself up, I'm glad there are others who appreciate the rats as much as I do & this forum shows the good fan base they have

Yeah that's really a good cd my son got it for me. Charmed lives speeded up still not a great song. I really try not to knock Rats/Geldof's song/s But even when this came out as a single My friend's were like. Really. But one of them did like it. So just goes to show you how we all hear songs in a different light For me this would only ever be the song that I would never play

There was a bit of a wave to be ridden after the success of House on Fire, but how they came up with Charmed Lives,  I'll never understand. They could only have chosen worse off V Deep by releasing the Little Death. My money was on Talking in Code as the third single, although I could hear OMD's Genetic Engineering in it here and there and never liked that song. He Watches or Skin on Skin would surely have fared much better and Up All Night was excellent.

I knew Charmed Lives would stiff. I don't think they even bothered wasting any money on a video for it. I tuned into Beacon Radio at the time and they gave over an entire evening show it seemed having a kind of post mortem into how badly off track they thought the Rats had gone.
