Anyway will post a review and observations etc Hope there are some new songs as the old setlist can get a bit predictable and we seem to be waiting forever for some new product.
Incidentally it was around this time 40 years ago that Rat Trap was making it's way up the charts, eventually the hitting number one spot in mid November 1978.
Probably not my favorite Rats performance though it did have its moments. Both Banana Republic and Someones Looking at You 'murdered' by Geldof's live rendition. BR live just does not sound like the record, a lazy, sloppy rendition of the tune that for me works only in the recorded version. SLAY too saw Geldof ride roughshod over the tune/vocal melody which is a brilliant RECORD but the version tonight was a shadow of the recorded version. The problem with live music is that there can be too much departure from how the song should sound.
On the other hand I was particularly struck by Joey's on the Street Again. Bang in the middle of the song Geldof said he thought he was back in Moran's Hotel in 1976, a feeling possibly brought on by the venue, which seemed paradoxically both fairly large and intimate at the same time. I though She's So Modern seemed to be performed with something extra that lifted it above the other songs.
The Speigeltent was a fantastic, curious and interesting venue, maybe holding a thousand or more. Hard to say exactly the numbers there but it was packed and it was the big winner for me. Bob's still on his crusade against TK Maxx damning Wexford as having the largest branch in Europe in the quays in the town. Luckily the locals are bright enough to get Bobs humour and though he had a few go's at them everyone just laughed. People in glass houses shouldn't throw parties as David Devant and his Spirit Wife had it back in the nineties.
Overall it was good, nothing new really no new songs. Geldof needs to get his hair cut. I found his constant jumping up and down, vertical take off type thing a bit annoying and over the top and he seemed to do this more at this show than a lot of the others I've been to. Just got the impression also that Garry and Simon looked a bit tired but maybe that was due to lack of sleep and all the travelling.It might have been my imagination. I was tired myself!
Good to meet all the regulars from the various fan sites from all parts of Ireland, the Uk and Europe.It was a really good meet up and we had great fun and hope to do it all again soon. Wexford is a great town and Geldof mentioned the last Rats gig there in '76 before the hit the big time.

Thanks for the review Noel. Hit the nail on the head in many respects from the gigs I've been to. New old songs needed and/or brand new ones.
I'd think the vast majority of the crowd in Wexford may not have seen the Rats before. Lovely place but not exactly on the rock and roll map. Doing new old songs or brand new ones will be mostly irrelevant unless you are a hardcore regular, that's the hard fact of the matter. We should just be glad that the place was packed and that, overall, it was a good show. You know it's working out when everyone demands an encore and that's what happened on Saturday night.
i did actually notice a lot of the people in the audience seemed familiar with the album tracks from the first lp. Even younger people in their twenties and thirties. It wasn't them just knowing the better known singles.
Both Looking After No 1 and Eva Braun were omitted from the set. Set might have been a little shorter but it was a late start and finished up after midnight.
I would have thought Geldof himself with a notoriously low boredom threshold would want some variety in the set by now and to test out some of the new songs. The album tracks from the first lp are going down well with people because they are good. There's plenty of good material from the last 3 albums and one would very much hope from Mega.
