Solo stuff aside, personally my list of songs that weren't that popular (this also depends where you live..i'm looking from an american standpoint!), that I do enjoy, are:

Wind Chill Factor (Minus Zero)

Please Don't Go

Man At The Top

Europe Looked Ugly ( I didn't even know this existed until I stumbled upon it a couple of months ago...)

He Watches It All

Lucky (Should have been more popular, heck, even released as a single would have done it a lot more justice.)

Icicle In The Sun

 All of the abovesmileplus.....

Never in a Million Years

Over Again -Fantastic emotive 'we're better than this/you know that's true.....

Straight Up-brilliant guitar riff

Elephants Graveyard

Hard Times

Walking Down Town-for sheer warts n all observation of junkie town, lots of subtle stuff going on too

Late Last Night/So Strange

Early demo -Second Time -Bob's singing really hits the spot here, great track

Dun Laoghaire-spoof track based on Dillangers Cocaine on the Brain (didn't know this until I saw it on ArrGees blog)

Born To Burn/Barefootin'

Please Don't  Go-trippy, almost psychedelic fantastic production, works for me

Real Different -one of the best Rats songs ever.

Lying Again -'Do ya think they don't know what they're doing/do ya think they don't  know who they're fooling?I know where I get my cynicism fromsmile

This is My Room -very evocative 'a worn out rug/an old address...' brings memories of various places I've lived in.

I'd also have to say How Do You Do ?, though it does strain the ears a little. Love it though.

Yes I like that one too. Not sure exactly how it strains the ears.Seems full on and  exuberant to me!  I'd give the Rats a 95/100 rating overall. They are not my favorite band for no reason.smile

Forgot to mention A Hold of Me and Tonight. Both great songs even if Derek disagrees with the latter and Mark with the former.

Haha....it's all a matter of opinion and relativity of course. I don't think A Hold of Me is great next to say Rat Trap or Real Different but I do think it's a great song next to the former number one by Bucks Fizz... The Land of Make Believe.

Strange how we all vary in our views...Noel and I align on the brilliance of RD, but misalign on AHOM? Go figure as they say across the pond!

I really like WCF and GMG, both could have been singles. GMG was in Eire.

A Hold of Me on YouTube: from 15003 views 133 thumbs up and 1 solitary thumbs down. Just sayin'smile

To be honest I prefer A Hold of Me. I certainly have played it more down the years and always find it both defiant and inspiring, but that's a very personal thing.

I "love" A Hold Of Me,very defiant and great lyrics.Always thought it was a brilliant last single from the Rats.I am now happy to soon be proved wrong with the release of the new singles and album.

It failed to hit the UK top 75, unlike its twin Million Years, so its alleged brilliance did not cut through. It's ok, but there is much better on ITLG such as Hard Times, Dave and Drag me Down.
