Unlikely. They had an aborted tour of Australia & New Zealand due to low ticket sales and whilst they have played New York & Boston in recent years, they were one offs. I suspect there will be European dates, but probably nothing further afield.

Sounds like a very interesting festival with Missy Malone and Friends Burlesque Revue on the bill; echoes of Frederick's of Hollywood back in the day...

You Sexy Things

On 4/4/79, the Rats performed at the world famous sexy undies shop Fredericks of Hollywood, Hollywood, California. Pink Rats badges were given to those lucky enough to attend.

Simon Crowe told us "We did that gig as a sort of novelty thing - they pushed back some of the displays and we set up and played. We had p.a. speakers on the street, as the shop could only hold a relatively small part of our audience!".

Interesting there are dates from February - October next year. Seems to be a nice gap in early June that is aiken (sic) to be filled. Limerick on 6th June and Cork on 7th June (in the tent!) would be good

So far only date here is Palmerstown Estate, Co Kildare on Sunday 12 July 2020 Forever Young Festival.

Great news for fans in the Republic, or for tourists making a weekend of it. Been some time since we were last in Eire, that must be remedied soon. Apart from when we visit friends in Bangor in the North, there's nowhere like it for hospitality in the UK

Very much doubt it. Bands tend to do it as a once off, and I'd imagine the locals would want a bit of variety rather than an act that was on only a few years previously. Limerick and Galway might be good options.

Pete also says band is 'working on it' in response to query about gigs in Australia.

Christy Moore is there this year as he is most years. Tom Jones also returning after playing there in 2016. other acts have also returned

No gatherings of crowds above 5,000 people until September means no Forever Young Festival in Kildare. The festival was due to take place in July. The Irish government will review the situation near the end of August.

This government ban means most summer festivals in Ireland will not go ahead, and this comes as a big blow to the Irish music industry.

I think he's right, regrettably. HIV was officially recognised around 1984 /5 and there is still no vaccine. Effective treatment took years to develop. Last week, it was declared there was 'no evidence' a person develops anti bodies like they do with measles and chicken pox. Just like HIV, without a model for natural immunity, researchers do not have a way to identify an immune response that would be effective against COVID-19 and thus developing a vaccine is much more difficult. Viruses tend to mutate and have different sub types. It all makes it difficult.

We are in for a very long haul, unfortunately.

As it stands, I expect further postponements or cancellation. There may need to be a reconsideration of the venues. I suspect that general admission standing won't be permitted. It may be possible to have empty seats and empty rows between people at a large venue like the Palladium and have seats installed at venues like the Brighton Dome and do similar. Can't see any of the festival dates happening.

Sting (68 & 11/12ths ), Jimmy Buffet (73), Van Morrison (75) and Dionne Warwick (79) all appear at the Palladium before the Rats. Guinea Pigs?
The average age of the audience across all of those will probably be 60+.

Kim Wilde does as well, but as she is only 59, she should be OK.

Sadly, I think you're right. I don't know what to make of it all. Sometimes, I find favour with what Peter Hitchens has to say on this and other times, I'm with Witty and Vallance. And all shades in between. Did Sweden do it right, us or Germany? I think time will only tell but the country will be changed. Will some of the venues even survive? Will there be jobs to go back to?

The live entertainment industry looks like it wont survive in its current form. I cant see theatres, cinemas, concert venues, sports ground or anywhere where crowds gather re-opening anytime soon. No matter what the venues do, without public transport, having an audience of more than 1,000 will not be feasible.

As for jobs, I guess there will be new jobs. I see more restaurants delivering. Even booze deliveries and take aways. And there will be plenty of work converting offices away from hot desking and open plan.

I agree. Plus, we will see many big companies come to understand that home working for their employees is more feasible than they thought before the pandemic restrictions. This will mean empty town and city office space, which could see them converted to apartments. But will people want to live in the city when their office is no longer open as they work from home and other venues are either not there or not what they were due to social distancing, which could be here for years if the virus becomes a permanent fixture for whatever reasons?

London Palladium gig could be on...

As part of the effort to bring the West End back to life, Andrew Lloyd-Webber has offered the use of the 2,295-seater London Palladium near Oxford Circus to trial and test technology to make a night at the theatre safe. This includes infrared temperature scanners over the main entrance that would identify audience members with a fever. They would be refused entrance and offered an alternative date. Ticket holders would also be required to show an app-based medical passport on their phones that would give them a traffic light rating of green, amber or red. Only audience members in the green category would be allowed in so that people would feel confident that were not sitting in the room with anyone who shouldnt be sitting in the room.

I agree. I suspect most of next year will be written off too. In fact, because coronaviruses mutates so much that a vaccine hope is pretty hopeless, it could be years before either herd immunity and/or virus weakening permits close-proximity activity like music gigs.

I think seated gigs may happen in next 12 months, but cant see standing gigs. Might even have to make outdoor festivals seated.

I can't see live music venues or theatres and nightclubs opening before May 2021. How many of them survive until then is something else.

2 days ago on Instagram they cancelled everything this calendar year and will reschedule for next year. Cant see anything happening until 2022 personally the same as crowds at soccer stadiums unless they manage to come up with the magic injection

Yes, I see that on Facebook. Surprised Palladium not informed anyone. Assuming Jarv Is.. is also cancelled in November, my calendar is totally empty until Easter next year.

If Van Morrison and The Divine Comedy can stage socially distanced gigs, I suspect others will follow. Must admit I see no point in a streamed gig as I could just watch the Rats at Hammersmith from 1978.

It is different, thats the first thing. No matter that Van Morrison steers clear of offering his political and scientific analysis of Covid-19 and the governments handling of it, the shadow of the pandemic hangs over the Palladium for the second of his five shows at the theatre. Social distancing is in place, and plenty of ticket holders have failed to turn up the seats to be unoccupied are marked, but plenty of the seats designated for bubbles remain empty. And that creates its own problems: much as Morrison has spoken of his preference for smaller audiences, he means small audiences in small rooms, rather than small audiences scattered about very big rooms. And the Palladium stays distinctly chilly, the coldness and emptiness of the place offering no help to his six-piece band.

Its a measure of Morrisons indefatigability, then, that even in these circumstances he can touch transcendence. In the middle of the set, a long and loose version of Baby Please Dont Go which segues smoothly into Thems Dont Start Crying Now and then Got My Mojo Working sees the band stretching out, and Morrison swapping out his mic to sing through the one for his harmonica...

It's anyone's guess. Hoping for a vaccine early 2021. But who knows what's round the corner.
