I was getting really excited when I saw Born to Burn lyrics in the book - sadly its only the 1st verse and 2 lines of the 2nd verse. The other lyrics he mentions- "piano player thumping keys" and "Man these walls are gonna blow" aren't in the song. I think these were alternative lyrics to some of the verses that were never used. Bob says himself he can't remember a lot of them.
Its actually one of my fave tracks and sums up the sped up classic R&B guitar sound ala Feelgood and then a lot of the earlier pub/ punk bands [ think Eddie & hot rods -get out of Denver}
I was pretty disappointed , so it prompted me to really try and work them out - listening on YT and slowing the speed. I think I've got a bout 95% of them and if I print them out on here with a gap for the ones Im not sure of, everyone could chip in with what they think it could be. 20 heads better than 1
His dictation isn't very clear in this song ,so a lot of lyrics have been guessed using the right context of the line.
If enough of you are up to this challenge ,I'll put them up. Im sure its the only Rats song that no one knows the lyrics to
Kev I will try but I'm not very good at those things but up for a challenge p.s well come to the forum you will get used to me in the nutty one who comments too much and waffles a lot but that's just me regards mike
A bit late getting back but heres my understanding - feel free to chip in with any comments. The numbers in brackets are the words/lines Im totally unsure of and how it sounds to me phonetically
Born to Burn
Set the guitar control to stun
D'wanna hear the tommy gun
The power chords begin to churn
tch, I was born to burn
The drummer starts firing keep your head down low
The Bass guitar's pumping ,never learns to play slow
you can't dance ,then i think you'd better learn
Talk about the Rats and they were born to burn
Well you can tell me what you think it'd be like
You're quite amazed that they're dynamite
they're gonna riff the tits right off your chest
c'mon and go honey go you're looking at the best
They're gonna be so quick you won't believe it with your eyes
Cos they're out to get you honey and you're in their line of fire
and they gonna [1] be [2]bruise somebody [3]all your senses gonna fall
you can beg and borrow sugar then they know that you're no liar
If they catch us down there [ 4 ] they'll juke jump down without a peek
cos they're the judges and the jury and Im not guilty
If they catch you checking out they're gonna make you stop and turn
talk about the Rats and they were born to burn
