I think Dave was a great UK single, but it stiffed largely because sales of the free ticket single were automatically disqualified. The other problem was just a lack of airplay and interest from radio which back in the day was key. House on Fire was a top 30 hit due to Peter Powell making it his record of the week on his popular evening radio one show. Dave and Drag me Down may have benefitted from a better production from Mutt Lange or Tony Visconti which might have secured more radio play, although I recall Mike Read playing it a fair few times on his breakfast show.
The US version of Dave rendered the single meaningless with the lyrics changed to de-gay the song for the US market.
I like the American version of Lucky but I am not to kean on the other 2. I have always loved ITLG as it reminds me of a ****e time in my life.My home life was disfunctional to say the least, lost my job and I knew it would soon be over for my beloved Rats.Shortly after I got out of my Rat Trap and left Britain.
