It's really sad news. His guitar work provided so much fire to the Rats

Dreadful news. RIP Garry, thank you so much for bringing the group together, both in 1975 and 2013 and for your tremendous skill and input over the years. Taken too soon. Condolences to your family and friends.

As an aside, I dont think he is 72, as widely reported. Pretty sure he was only 68 as he went to school with Simon Crowe who is 67.

RIP Garry - I remember the Rats [before Bob came back ] playing a small village gig in Newquay [West Wales] there were only a few older genuine fans there -most were there for this younger band who were playing. One of the support acts was Dave Sharpe [The Alarm] who was playing to about 5 people - myself , my girlfriend and darren beale -who i didn't know was the rats guitarist at the time - after a while I turned to go to toilet and Simon and Garry were right behind me - I thought I'd have a chat with them after i finished my business - but They had left to get ready for their act when I came back - damn! would've been great to talk to them

I have loved the Rats from 1978, seen them 6 times in England and once in Boston USA around my 50th. So glad he got Simon and Bob to put hard feelings in the past so we could enjoy the band back, touring and recording.
RIP Garry and thanks for being part of the greatest band in the world from Dun Laoghrie!
My thoughts and prayers to friends and family.
