Is it the right moment for the Rats to stop?

Given no future dates and the sad passing of Garry Roberts, should the Rats call it a day?

I haven't seen them this year, but I wouldn't go near the Let's Rock festivals regardless.   Would there be any point to another summer of abridged sets at festivals? Apart from the money, obviously.

It has been great to see The Boomtown Rats in the last 15 years or so including Barton Rats and Bradbury Rats, however unless they intend to tour in their own right and play more than the hits, it is pretty meaningless.

Thoughts? As if anyone will post

Again, like 12 months ago, as there are no future dates, there are unlikely to be any more releases and they are not getting any younger, is now a good time to call it a day?

It would be good to have a big farewell gig or two, but not sure there is much appetite for that given just one headline gig in the last ten years. Butlins weekends are no more and I cant see Rebellion getting the Rats back. I guess the Lets Rock/Rewind festival appearances are pretty lucrative and low risk, but of no appeal to me.

It will be the 50th anniversary of the Rats at Halloween next year. A repeat of the 40th anniversary Olympia show on a Friday night with the joint jumping and the walls shaking would be a great finale.

Next year is the 50th year annerversary of The Boomtown Rats and my gut feeling is they will do some live dates next year and then call it a day.Again my gut feeling is that they will end it in Dublin.

Will there be a finale in Dublin?

It seems like The Rats cannot be bothered with a homecoming concert in Dublin.I am stunned, saddened and even annoyed that a proper stand up gig in Dublin has been missed. Why play London on their 50th anniversary instead of Dublin?.

Dublin had the 40th anniversary show, so only fair London gets the 50th, especially as Bob and Pete live here.

The Rats played Swords this summer, so Dublin has had a homecoming headline gig.

I suspect that if they play Kilkenny, they will almost certainly play Dublin at some point in 2026.

PS - I am glad the 50th is in London after my somewhat odd experience of the 40th in Dublin.
