David Jensen presents a weekly look at pop charts featuring the Buzz****s, Elton John, Showaddywaddy, Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Heatwave, Blondie, Dean Friedman, Streetband, Queen, Child and the Boomtown Rats.
Great to see. I lost a load of recordings by moving to Sky Q. You can't take them with you, without a dubious faff. BBC4 have been featuring 77,78 and 79 a lot recently, somehow managing to pick Rats - free episodes except in the chart rundown.
Just been watching "Every No. 1 of The 70s" on Now 70s and I have come to the realisation that it had been a long time since a decent rock artist had a #1 single ergo Queen in 1975. For nigh on 3 years the #1 single was the preserve of a load of tosh barring Kate Bush. After the Rats making number one, Blondie, Ian Dury, The Police, Gary Numan and even Pink Floyd followed.
45 years ago.How crazy is that?.I remember the Rats on TV tearing up Greace posters and thinking what the ferk.I bought the single and got ATFTT as a Christmas present and the rest is history. There hardly goes a day by without listening to The Rats.
I could do with a stand up proper concert instead of all these festivals though.

Can't believe you waited until Christmas
I'm not sure if there will be another proper concert. I think Palladium was the last one apart from the free gig in Cavan. That tour was originally cancelled due to COVID and none of the other dates were rescheduled. Just need to see where The Rats turn up in 2024. The Damned and The Stranglers are pretty active next year headlining Stone Valley and Rebellion respectively along with their own headlining tours.
