I dont suppose anyone will vote, but now I am retired with nothing better to do I have been making playlists on Spotify with era defining tracks.  There are acts that span the eras, but pretty much they all belonged to certain times, though not necessarily when they started.

Sixties 1962-1971  :  Beatles - Please Please Me to Who - Wont Get Fooled Again

Glam 1971-1975 : T. Rex - Ride a White Swan to Sweet - Action

Punk/New Wave 1976-1979 : Damned - New Rose to Clash - London Calling

The Eighties 1980-1987 : The dark ages  Currently working on this, but given Teardrop Explodes made a couple of great LPs as did Julian Cope, there must be a lot of decent stuff lurking.

Baggy 1988-1991 :  Happy Mondays - Wrote For Luck to Stone Roses - I Am The Resurrection

Britpop 1992-1999 : Suede - The Drowners to Supergrass - Pumping on Your Stereo

Y2K 2000-2009 : Coldplay - Yellow to Arctic Monkeys - Crying Lightning

I will expand this with some commentary and may even look at what has happened since 2010.  It cant all be bad, can it?  [well there is definitely Royal Blood and Wet Leg for sure]

PS I am not going back before 1962.  I wasnt born!
