Kilkenny gig 31 January 2026

My brother bought me a ticket as  a gift and he will be attending his first Rats gig. Ive lost count of mine. We grew up in County Kilkenny and I can remember going into Sherwoods Record Store on the High Street to buy various Rats albums back in the day including Surfacing, Mondo Bongo, V Deep, Never in a Million Years single etc!

Not sure if anyone from here is going but let me know if you are. There are some great pubs in Kilkenny. It's Irelands Medieval capital and a great place to visit without being over  run with tourists.

The Rats last played Kilkenny on 27 December 1976, prior to their rise to fame and chart success. The venue was  Kyteler's Inn ( Tudor Rooms)named after the famous supposed witch Dame Alice Kyteler who was subject to a witch trial by her husband, a prominent Norman barron back in the 1300's. Kyteler's is a famous Kilkenny institution, though I've no idea how the Rats went down back in 1976!

The gig is now officially sold out! 1,900 standing capacity so the Cats haven't let the Rats down. Someone told me Bob did a great radio interview on RTE last Saturday which might have helped.

Like you I have been to too many Rats/Bob Geldof gigs to remember how many I have actually been to. Saw them in Hammersmith on 31st October and met up with a number of fellow Rats in the pub beforehand including Derek the Dane, a guy from the Croatia, and a lady from the US. A great night and hope you enjoy the gig tonight.
