Let's look forward

Well, it is a new day, the sun is shining and I have just arrived at work and should not be using this computer really. We have all moaned, dissected, discussed and vented our frustration (me included, poor Pete got the brunt of mine), but I think it is time to look forward again. We will not be reinstated and there is nothing we can do about it. So remember we have a TV and radio appearance to look forward to next week. Does anyone else think that it might be a pre recorded interview on Richard and Judy on Monday? Would they be brave enough to have him on live at 5 pm in the afternoon and can't bleep him out? Also radio 4 on Friday. lets get back to talking about Bob, which is why we are all here.

I think I must have got the last out of my system on that last past of mine. One last thing, it got us talking didn't it? Nothing much else does that. So yes, let's move on and it would be good to see some more activity now. A new beginning with no bad feeling please. We've had our say let's get on with it.

Are these programmes to promote the paperback and audio book of Geldof in Africa? (I've had notification that mine is on the way and I can't wait to listen to Bob reading!!).

You think they will have recorded the show for Monday?

I must remember to set the Sky Box to record for both...

I think this is a very positive move and frees the moderators from their previous responsibilities of not having anything that upsets Geldof.

Issues like the relationship with the former Rats, where the money went from Live 8, his business interests and issues in his private life, such as the Paula/Bob/Hutchence situation can now be openly discussed without fear of censorship.

There are numerous issues which were no-go areas, which I felt was wrong as the information was in the public domain.  As long as it's not libelous or offensive, I think any subject is fair game now.

I have added the forum link to wikipedia and I'll be contacting Chris at boomtownrats.co.uk to see if he will add a link (he had a run in with Ian recently and will understand).  I won't contact the happy club italia as I feel it's too beholden to nogeldof.info.

ArrGee, I disagree. One thing I've always liked about this forum was that there were "no-go-areas", if you want to call them that - some issues that never got many responses. I don't see any use in discussing Paula&Michael, etc. I don't think this needs censorship, but common sense. I don't know how much you deleted, but I always felt this community was extremely conscious about this.

I also think it would be wrong to exclude Eddy and co. from all further fan activities.

Ah, I'm still so confused about all this! It's the one thing that shouldn't have happened. It all makes me incredibly sad, rather than angry at the moment.

Will write more later...

No one ever has to respond to issues, but I am not going to remove threads.  So people are free to discuss who gets the money from the Rats merchandise, or even the Paula/Hutchence situation.  I doubt MJ will remove them either, but that's her call.  And Scottie can make her own decisions on what is right/wrong.

Eddy is not "excluded", but he isn't a member on this forum, so he ain't exactly included anyway.  I'm not going to ask him for a link to the forum as he is, in my mind, just an offshoot of nogeldof.info and I doubt he will want to put his relationship with them at risk.

I asked Chris at boomtownrats.co.uk to provide a link which he has kindly agreed to.  He has had a similarly strange relationship with nogeldof.info.

yes i also feel incredibly sad. one of the many things i loved about being part of the forum was the closeness to bob.... i feel alienated and as if i am being punished for for wanting to be involved in a place to which i can talk about my favourite musical artist.(most people around me don't actually know who bob geldof is!)  i agree, i wish this hadn't happened.

It's too late about asking Eddy, I already did this on Sunday evening. However, all I said was that we were struggling to get new blood and could do with having our link displayed. It's his call whether he includes it or not.

No objection to asking him, I just said I wasn't.

What a shock for me when I logged on to find out what changes had happened in the last couple of days.........

It's all a bit disappointing I suppose, but, as has already been said I suppose everyone's now better able to express opinions without censorship.

Mind you I've always found everyone here to be quite loyal and true Geldof fans, and haven't really seen too much posted that I would have considered objectionable.

Still, everyone's still here and, as Scottie says, it's a new day and there's always stuff to look forward to.

I feel a bit cross at Bob though. I've never met him, or even hung around after a gig in the hope of meeting him. Always thought I'd be disappointed somehow if ever I did. Feel just like I do now in fact.

I also felt sad and depressed after the changes, but I calmed down for now. It helped that I thought it over, listened to some music and enjoyed the Brazil- Croatian soccer game. Any one else watching the games?
It also helped I could talk about it with my mother. She also has problems because her best friend is depressed and talks about comiting suicide and I thought I better cheer up before this happenness to me too.

If I meet Bob next month in Milan I will tell him what a shock it was to all of you that the official site has done and none of you wanted to upset him with any of your posts.

Reka, if you want to have happy memories of meeting Bob, don't even consider mentioning the forum and certainly don't tell him you are a member. Talk about the concert, the weather, what he had for breakfast, anything else. Take my advice.
