But Geldof continues to look at projects that grab his attention. At the top of this list is Groupcall to combat truancy in schools using mobile phone technology.

"Again," he says, "this is a product using technology that is so good, you'd have to be a complete idiot not to do it. Of course, the real challenge in business is persuading everybody else that the idea is as good as you say it is."

Bobi G is good upstanding citizen who would never encourage this sort of behaviour to further his business ambitions.... (no?)

Bob Geldof has been condemned by the education establishment for urging children and teachers to bunk off school in the name of Africa.

The founder of Live Aid called for them to flock to Edinburgh on July 5 and lobby international leaders attending the G8 conference for wealthy nations.

Ah I understand!  Bobi G is making kids bunk off school, and then he makes money when they do. He is clever dicky!

Yeah, too right - kids bunking off lessons, learning to play their mate's guitar left handed, who knows where that will all lead ? .....

(I suppose when you have a financial stake in Groupcall, it changes your opinion)

Sir Bob Geldof will reinforce his call for a greater use of technology in the battle against truancy in schools in two events this week.

...

"These are astonishing results, which has already led to significant additional interest in Groupcall and its products," explains Geldof. "Given that truancy rates have been increasing year on year, these figures are phenomenol and represent a milestone for the technology in tackling truancy. We now have definitive evidence that this inexpensive system significantly reduces truancy. The potential ramifications of that for the rest of the country are huge."

"Scotland has led the way and it now underlines the case for a similar pilot to be undertaken in schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland as well," adds Geldof.
