Band Aid is no.2 , after Slade, in the best Xmas no. ones

Mistletoe and whine

Geldof

Band Aid: Do They Know It’s Christmas?
Year: 1984

The chimes at the beginning, the stellar cast of top-notch singers (George Michael, Boy George, Bono, Sting etc) and the rather fine lyrics all add up to one of the best No.1s ever. Has anyone else noticed that the build-up to the chorus sounds like the Dr Who soundtrack? Good stuff – we all need a few Daleks with our brandy butter, or something. Just be sure to avoid the 2004 version. Ugh!
