Virgin Radio top 500 2006 - Rats places

Rat Trap - is no 472 down 2 places from last year when it was 470
Mondays - 231 - down from 175 last year.

I forgot to vote and spread the word. Maybe we could have pushed them slightly higher. Still it's good to know all those people who voted are still thinking of the Rats. Just beneath them are The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Verve, T-Rex and Queen.

Two songs in a top 500 isn't too bad, even if Virgin ain't that great a radio station (my opinion I hasten to add, though I'm not alone in that).

I'm always pleasantly surprised that Rat Trap makes it onto these lists as it hasn't been played on the radio for about 25 years.

But amazingly the number one song of all time is......

Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol

Give me a break, it ain't even in the top 5000 of 2006

The top 25 (if you care...) http://www.virginradio.co.uk/music/charts/top_500/index.html

  1. Chasing Cars Snow Patrol : NEW ENTRY

  2. Iris The Goo Goo Dolls :129

  3. One U2 :4

  4. Wonderwall Oasis :18

  5. I Predict A Riot Kaiser Chiefs  :210

  6. Time Of Your Life Green Day :219

  7. A Town Called Malice The Jam :45

  8. America Razorlight : NEW ENTRY

  9. It Must Be Love Madness :60

  10. Mr Brightside The Killers :496

  11. Bohemian Rhapsody Queen :6

  12. Hey Jude The Beatles :2

  13. Yellow Coldplay :25

  14. Pride (In The Name Of Love) U2 :66

  15. Losing My Religion REM :13

  16. Golden Brown The Stranglers :109

  17. Paint It Black The Rolling Stones :34

  18. Imagine John Lennon :1

  19. Bittersweet Symphony The Verve :49

  20. Sweet Child O'mine Guns N Roses :14

  21. Angels Robbie Williams :5

  22. A Day In The Life The Beatles :71

  23. Ashes To Ashes David Bowie :196

  24. Under The Bridge Red Hot Chili Peppers :36

  25. That's Entertainment The Jam :63

The top 100 British Artists is laughable.... (of course, Rats would not have qualified being Irish, never mind having no hope of making it!)

Ah I didn't listen to the final part of the charts (or much of it at all come to that) but I did hear the DJ's nearly falling off their seats in amazement as they announced that Stairway to Heaven didn't make it into the top 300 (or there abouts). They also kept saying you won't believe what is no. 1! Now I understand. It has been extremely over played on Virgin and must have been on people's minds when they voted. It wouldn't even figure in my top 1000. Not a bad song, but just that nothing special.

I like Snow Patrol but that is a joke. It has to have been the most played song on every Irish Radio station last year though. These countdowns irritate me as all these new entries will be forgotten about in a couple of years. Its good to see Robbies Angels slipping though
