BTR wrote:Gerry Cott is in the video of Up All Night yet it is from the album V Deep.
Cott would still have been with the band when it was first recorded. Up All Night was on the US Mondo Bongo (well a version of it was) and replaced on the US V deep with Whitehall 1212. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_Deep_%28album%29
The Up All Night on UK V Deep differs from US Mondo as do the two extended versions (b-side Drag me down/remastered V Deep)
Up All Night and House on Fire were leftovers from Mondo Bongo. It's quite possible other tracks from V Deep were as well. They may have been re-recorded for V Deep without Cott.
V Deep is a bit of a low. I suspect no one was really too bothered with it. Tony Visconti didn't seem bothered, and the songs are so sloppy and cliched it's like Geldof couldn't be bothered either. And no one bothered to buy it. House on Fire, The Bitter End, A Storm Breaks and He Watches it All are all good, but the rest of it could be consigned to the bin and not missed. Even the b-sides at the time were rubbish. It's a shame they released the album at all given this half heartedness. In The Long Grass is a far better record, just a shame that was three years down the line.
Will be interested to see if Visconti's biography mentions the Rats at all http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tony-Visconti-Autobiography-Bowie-Brooklyn/dp/0007229445/sr=8-1/qid=1172060579/ref=pd_ka_1/026-5025276-5322830?ie=UTF8&s=books
The video from "Up All Night" is in this lady's blog. If Geldof pets his women like he does these snakes, then,............. the mind boggles! http://elizabethbeebe.blogspot.com/2007/03/music-from-ireland-boomtown-rats.html I apologise if you have seen it before, but I haven't. I think this might be an American appearance.
Hey, I figured you all seen the video for "Up All Night" before.
I had found that video on YouTube last summer and gave some of my non-Rats friends some hot flashes with that particular one.
Peace, debm

The Boomtown Rats are very talented...in the opening solo by Bob...he sounds exactly like the lead singer of "The Cure"...indeed he moves very similarly and the videos of The Cure are "out there" just as this video is...
