When is Bob's comic relief thing going to be on?

"Red nose day" is Friday 16 March, so I guess Bob's film will be on that day.

I am part of this film. We filmed it with Bob in the summer and we have no idea if its going to be shown on comic relief night or not! Does anyone know if it IS definatley going to be shown? Hope so as it really was funny to film so would love to watch it all the way through

I was one of the lookalikes on stage with him. Its not everyday you can say you stood on stage singing "I dont like Mondays" with Sir Bob!!!!!

It was great fun and he was so easy to work with and he had a really good laugh with us all.

Have asked him to let me know and asked permission to put Bob in a dress pic on myspace site. 2 pics of Bob in drag in a few days. Hmmmm! One thing, he is not afraid to send himself up at all.

OK, so what time is their slot? I'd like to see Bono and Bob doing a sketch! Superb! I had a look through the listings through Sky but it doesn't mention them - except for Girls Aloud singing. They don't mention Ricky Gervais anywhere or any of the others?

For anyone who recorded it, Bob was on about 11pm in a sketch with Ricky Gervais, Steven Merchant, Jamie Oliver and Bono. About faking a visit to Africa.

I think they are sending up those who say they are doing it for all the wrong reasons, by appearing to do it for the wrong reasons. Bob certainly does not mind sending himself up, hence the deoderant, and the reference to the Rats. I loved Bono and the U2 tape.

Did Ricky Gervais write it? The reference to the Rats and the deodorant makes me think Bob had a say in it. I could see him writing stuff like himself

Wasn't he supposed to be laughing all the way through? He did brilliantly not to show it on the final take.. Not so keen on Jamie Oliver but he was pretty good, I have to say.

Hey, has anyone contacted the beeb to see if they have any plans to broadcast the film in the near future. That short sketch was funny, and Bono was in it too, but it doesn't make up for missing a whole film with Bob in it! *stamps feet* I want to see it NOW.

Effective Pitching Lessons from "I Am Bob"

This short began as a cross between an old Elton John SNL skit involving a moose (I just couldn't bring myself to ask) and the writer/director's real life friend becoming stranded from his limo one night when he stepped out for a momentary mother nature solute.

Combined with the surreal world of celebrity look-alikes, the self-parody leaves plenty of room for irony. When the real Bob is mistaken himself as just another look-alike in the competition, "the" Bob Geldof is then coerced into singing onstage as a means of getting cab fair away from a remote northern town.

You might think it's great luck that Donald Rice was able to get Geldof, but you'd be missing the point about working long and hard on custom versions of the script for both Mick Jagger and Elton John that were written and pitched as well, proving that most luck is in fact smart selling.

Cheers to Geldof for being a good enough sport to play the parody of himself, with the real point of luck being Geldof's willingness to stay an extra three days to finish the shoot after wishful thinking made Rice think he could shoot a seven-day production schedule in four.

I have been in touch with George again. The actor/comedian who plays the compere is Brian Conley, (I did not recognise him) and the other Bob is supposed to be a very bad comedy version. I have asked him how the "blue dress" fits into the story. He is also going to let me know if he hears of any UK screenings. Hopefully, the Edinbugh International Film Festival, then I could go.

What's all that about? A friend is doing and I'm doing it for him/No I didn't know him and wrote to him for about 9 months before he agreed. Odd!

The only review I have seen

I am Bob is more like a conventional film than an experimental short -- it just tells its story very quickly. Bob Geldof is in the back of a limo, talking business -- "I don't do Romania, just Africa" -- when an unexpected detour lands him at a little backwoods British dive where they are having a celebrity look-alike contest. When his limousine pulls away from the place without him, thinking he's still in the backseat, Geldof is stranded without money or identification. Out of options, he enters the contest as 'Bob Geldof,' hoping to win the prize money and be on his way. There are plenty of funny moments as impersonators each take turns on stage doing their thing. As you might expect, the plot thickens when Geldof finds that there is another Bob Geldof in the contest -- which Geldof will prevail? There's a nice rendition of "I Don't Like Mondays" to round things out and after its over, you'll be surprised how much story they were able to pack into a film that I'm pretty sure ran under twenty minutes.
