I'm going to Dublin for real (not just via google earth) again soon. Last time I didn't get to see all of this. So tell me where I should be heading for. We went to Dun Laoghaire but didn't quite know where we should go. And as for U2 yes please
This place is blackrock park and the BTR played here once - 1977 ish. Im sure they played on the bandstand on the water but i've included the other bandstand too. its a lovely place on a sunny day. Years ago (the '80s) i've seen some bands play here its pretty cool listening to music looking out to sea.
Where Rat Trap was penned? Bewley's cafe - it has closed, well at least it is just a shop. We went there last time in Dublin. Took a photo of the record plaque outside...
Here we are - the next installment Most are self explainatory except 'morans' which is now called "O'Sheas" - this place is where they played before moving to london.(1977) This is just off O'Connell Street.
The Meat Factory is now demolished but it was directly behind that little building with the blue door. The stroll along the canal is lovely.
The five lamps is close to Croke Park if your interested in Hurling/Gaelic Football. By the way, you can see an election poster on the five lamps, it from the 'Sinn Fein' party which roughly translates from irish as 'The Looking after number 1' party!
The Gasworks looks like its now an office block!!
And yes Bewleys would be a difficult place to write Rat Trap as its no longer a sit down cafe.
I've received no feedback on this idea of showing a 'BG Dublin tour' so I assume its not of interest. Ah well.....All these places i've shown i pass frequently, which I felt could be expressed to other BG/BTR people , which are all about the Big Guy. No worries. I've one more post which is about DunDreary, sorry, DunLaoghaire (where I went to school).
Love and best wishes to Jules,Scottie and MusicMania....XXXOOOO...real people....connected to this forum. Would love to hear from Linda.....Argee.....et al.......
This is NOT a new post.....It's an old one but the Photo URLS died on the old one of Blackrock Park, so I feel I should rePost this?

Now if only I had tracked this post down last week.... I have been penning a few words on Rat Trap for my blog (still in progress, had meant to do it for 30 years since hitting number one, but redecorationg and starting a new job has impacted that), and as it happened I was in Dublin for the last couple of weeks. Bewley's is still open with the plaque outside, and I even ate at an Italian cafe (though as it was located in Temple Bar most likely not the one mentioned in the song). Will head for RIngsend and Five Lamps next time......
hey ArrGee, I'm glad you found this subject interesting. I hope you had a good time in Dublin.
I was having Christmas dinner today and Geldof popped up on the TV. My father in law says, "ah sure I worked with his father" ........... ME: You what? Bob Geldofs father? Father in Law: Yeah, perfect gentleman, sold flooring, he had a place off Capel Street there.
Its a funny world. nick

Was working, not feeling that well and ended up getting very wet (I had to throw my reeboks away!), not unusual Working out in park west which takes ages to get into the centre on the bus, so spent a few nights just zonked out in the hotel watching films (not the mucky ones!). Getting 7am flights leaves me dead to the world.
But looking forward to future visits when I can get a bit more quality time, so will look up this post to get fully briefed.
Look at the bottom left corner, and you will note Geldof with Cott in the background. Haven't quite got around to everything but I have at least two more weeks to explore.
