BOB GELDOF was left shocked and shaken after a motorcyclist crashed into his car - but is relived the biker escaped without serious injuries. The former Boomtown Rats frontman was doing a U-turn in a busy London street when the motorcyclist suddenly collided with his vehicle. Speaking shortly after the incident, Geldof told reporters, "I'm very shaken but fine. There was no serious harm done to anyone in our car. It's just a shock." The 39-year-old biker was taken to hospital with minor knee and groin injuries, and Geldof was relieved to learn the victim was not seriously wounded. He adds, "Thank God he's fine. Thank God again. The main thing is he's OK. He had all his bike gear on which probably stopped a lot of damage. I was speaking to him and told him to lie still. The paramedics came and checked him. There's nothing broken which surprised me. I'm so glad. "I was pulling out and a woman stopped to let me go and the bike came up on the other side and went into the wheel. He was knocked flying. It was an accident."
There have been so many differing reports of this. Since when was the Sun accurate? According to a friend of the motorcyclist, he has a badly broken leg and was undergoing a CT scan today in hospital. I thought Bob drove a Toyota people carrier anyway.
It seems the por guy is more badly hurt than first thought. Reports today - "But doctors have revealed Quinn's injuries to be much worse than initially thought - he's facing a lifetime of surgery and joint pain. He says, "I was riding carefully. Nothing was coming the other way. "Suddenly this car appeared in front of me doing a U-turn. I hit the brakes but... I didn't stand a chance. "I'm now facing surgery and injuries that may be with me (for) the rest of my life. And it's all because he didn't pay enough attention when he pulled out." It is easy enough to slam the driver, but we have all done it at some time, just lost concentration for a moment. I almost knocked a cyclist off his bike when opening a car door once. My best wishes for everyone concerned.
I can imagine Bob being a bit of a mad driver for sure. Although the other man may well be very angry and making more of the accident itself than it is. Understandably. I feel for them both, Bob has to live with knowing what the man has got live with.
There is a big piece in today's Sun, with photos of the scene. Funny how there are always cameras around. The guy is readily posing for pics in his wheelchair outside the hospital. Bob has been in touch with him and has been calling the hospital. I am sure he will see him right. Police are piecing things together, to see if charges are to be brought.
LATEST: Rocker BOB GELDOF has been blasted for reckless driving by the victim of his bike crash on Thursday (26Jul07), who insists he "didn't stand a chance" in the accident. The former Boomtown Rats frontman was doing a U-turn in a busy London street when motorcyclist Andrew Quinn collided with his vehicle. The clash sent the 39-year-old biker flying into the air and he was taken to hospital with minor knee and groin injuries. But doctors have revealed Quinn's injuries to be much worse than initially thought - he's facing a lifetime of surgery and joint pain. He says, "I was riding carefully. Nothing was coming the other way. "Suddenly this car appeared in front of me doing a U-turn. I hit the brakes but... I didn't stand a chance. "I'm now facing surgery and injuries that may be with me (for) the rest of my life. And it's all because he didn't pay enough attention when he pulled out."
It does appear to be legit. I have driven in London - downtown areas, so I know it can be a challenge. What is curious; how did he make a U-Turn? Does he drive a Smart Car? That's the only way I could do that manuever!
I agree with Jules; Bob will do the right thing by this man.
I am not a traffic cop, but when you see pictures of Bob's car, it is the driver's side that was dented. So the guy must have overtaken the car who stopped to let Bob out. He maybe di not realise that was why she had stopped. So, maybe one of these 50-50 things.
Do you have a link to the pictures Irene? I didn't spot them in any of the above? Just curious.
There are so many differing reports, who knows what really happened and what injuries were actually sustained. Just hope it really wasn't what was reported in the earlier report.
ggrr >=/ you know i do wish that there was just one solid story.. i don't know which variation to believe! and those are big variations o.0 one paper says that there were minor injuries, another says that the injuries will last a life time? in one story the victim appears to be cool with it i suppose, and then in another he seems really angry?!
i also hate the way the papers twist people's words around , it's really evil!! and the way the paparazzi won't give people a moments peace?? shouldn't this be illegal? it's so unfair =[
I don't know what the law is over there, but if this had happened in the US, my guess would be that when the cyclist realised that he got hit by someone "rich and famous" his injuries suddenly got alot worse.
