Is Bob playing Istanbul tonight? According to the Istanbul official city website, he is. This is to replace the one which was cancelled earlier. Bob Geldof will be performing in Istanbul Arena on September 7, 2007.
Founder of The Boomtown Rats, Bob Geldof is an an Irish singer, songwriter, actor and political activist.
Born in 1951, the artists latest songs include "The Happy Club", "Crazy" and "Sex, Age and Death". Also a film star, Geldof's lead performance in The Wall was greeted with extensive praise by the critics and the audience.
He is regarded as the number one man of charity concerts for Africa and other issues. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.
I have had confirmation from a Turkish friend that this concert is ON. I now remember when the original Istanbul one was cancelled, today was given as the rearranged date and I did post it, but promptly forgot about it. Nothing on info though. Hopefully my friend will get some good pics and he is going to send me any reviews he sees.

It seems that Bob is getting another award in Germany today:
It says there that he'll be receiving the "M100 media award" tonight in Potsdam in Castle Sanssouci (beautiful location!). According to the article, it'll be Wolfgang Schäuble the Geman Home Secretary presenting the award to Bob. Former laureates of this price were Sir Norman Foster and Bernard Kouchner.
So - if he got the award earlier in the evening and rushed to the airport, he could play a show in Turkey in theory. Maybe there'll be more on the news tomorrow. Some nice photos I hope!
It is a 9.30 concert starting time. By the time the support act is on, and the interval, it could be 10.30, 10.45 before Bob is on. Then there is one hour time difference to add on. IF the gig does go ahead, my guess is private plane.
There's a short interview with Bob towards the end, it's dubbed but you'll get an idea. This was aired yesterday at 7.30 pm and Bob hadn't received the award at that time. No way he could have made it to Istanbul in time, if you ask me.
Still no idea whether the gig was on or off last night. All I know is that the Turkish websites, including Istanbul Arena's own site were still advertising it up until yesterday. Someone in Turkey is trying to find out for me. This guy works for the "Balkan Bob Geldof", called Dragan. I promised to listen to some of his music.
Thanks for clearing that up Ian. He would have needed to be Superman to get from Berlin to Istanbul. The gig was still being advertised in Turkey on the Istanbul city site and the Arena site and a friend on myspace, who lives in Istanbul said on friday that it was still on. I will put a bulletin out to say that was not the case. That is what made it as clear as mud. Still, the Polish ones seemed to have been a big success. I have heard nothing but positive comments from those who were there.
