Sounds positive. Please Bob please.I am going to order 10 copies from a chart shop if Bob releases a new album.
Does Geldof have a record company? Would he still have a contract with Eagle? Now he may make a few sales to the likes of us, but I'd be surprised if he could shift enough units to have anyone release his album.
Sex, Age & Death, though a qualified critical success, was the worst selling Geldof album, and the sales of the Anthology were very poor.
Given the likes of The Charlatans (moderately successful) and Radiohead (massively successful) are pretty much giving their albums away on download to promote themselves, an artist like Geldof (lack of success since 1990) should be following suit.
I think Geldof will return to the studio and lay down some tracks but finding an audience will prove to be difficult. He needs to be shifting thousands in order to convince a record company to back him.
My advice (and it ain't worth much) is for Geldof to preview tracks through his website and myspace. That way he can get an audience. If it's good enough for Jarvis C0cker http://www.myspace.com/jarvspace (over a million hits) who has a bigger potential fanbase then it's good enough for Geldof.
He will have to up his game on myspace then. He has logged in about twice this year, in April and October. My fanpage has had more views than his. I would be quite happy to " officially" host some new tracks, as would several others here, like Jules and Debs, I am sure. The more plays , the bigger audience, the better , surely? At the moment I host a track from my friend John Keenan. Myspace has resulted in his stuff being played on BBC Radio from Kent to the North of Scotland. It would have to be done seriously and not half heartedly, as has been known in the past. The offer is there Bob. You would be a fool not to take it.
Sorry for not posting recently, too many other pulls on my energy and life has been getting in the way.
Yes Bob needs to do something drastic to get sales. He needs to be visible on TV, have a chance to play. Get air play on the radio and use media such as Myspace and Facebook (as U2 did). Whatever he thinks of it his potential audience is out there using it so go to them. World, this is Bob calling.
I agree with Jules now is time for new material let politics take a back burner for now theres enough politicians for that . Go on Bob give us a new album
It is amazing what you find in google . Bob is going to Hong Kong and Japan around the time of Chinese New Year, I dont know if it is music related or not. (Hope it is)
Bob only played 9 GIGS in the whole of 2007.He should either release a new album and go for it (release good singles, get on tv,advertise a British tour etc etc) or do a goodbye concert and call it a day and continue to aid Africa.I cannot remember the last time Bob played in England or Ireland.I love Bob musicaly but 1 new studio album since 1992 is not exactly impressive. So come on Bob ......................GO FOR IT.
He ought to let us be the judges of that. He isn't renowned for his faith in his own ability.
One song? Now I know he only had 10 tracks on his last album, but one cannot constitute as an album. Please Bob, we want another 12 or so songs. And we really don't want a goodbye gig now that would be too sad.

He played 10 in 2007 (inlcuding Libya). I can't see a tour of England. The last one back at the end of 2005 was poorly attended (half the dates were cancelled) and unless he is prepared to play smaller venues there is little prospect of him touring in England.
I don't see any reason to call it a day. Most people, myself included, believe he effectively has. Should he announce a last concert it is more likely to be met with derision. Geldof may as well just keep playing the big paydays here there and everywhere. Who knows, one day there may be renewed interest in his music maybe via a soundtrack.
Does anyone else think that the so called Boomtown Rats threat to record a new album will be the spur he needs? He will want to get his out first, if there is one. Incidentally, on tonight's Headcases on ITV, they were lampooning Bono and Bob (who wanted electronic tagging for Peaches) and one of his lines was "this will delay my brilliant new album". Maybe they know something we don't. I don't think so myself.
hi me-I would walk 500 miles ( and 500 more) to get new music from my favourite musician ( Bob) it would be good if people could buy new songs online -I just hope & pray for new music in 09 & an american tour that lands in Madison Wisconsin. do the rat! fodleg (Dale)
Norway might surpise everybody , you never know!!!!! I personally agree with Hipcio, he needs inspiration and needs to write from personal experience. I think he is a brilliant songwriter. I love his solo stuff. The words get to me and I feel his emotions.
