looking at the debate in Boomtown Rats thread on Geldof solo sets i thought it might be fun to play fastasy Geldof .where its up to you to pick a 16 song set for a Geldof live gig ill think about mine and post later, but i would diffinitley favour songs from Bobs solo years ,i guess ArrGee would would favour rats material but the skill is i think trying to balance the set list for the ultimate BOB GELDOF SET
Golly its hard to pick just 16 songs but here is my choce for the Fantasy set list
1 . Hurt hurts 2. Love or something 3. Neon heart 4. Big Romantic stuff 5. Soft Soil 6. One for me 7. Cool Blue and Easy 8. Mudslide 9. Birthday Suit 10. Hippy Angel 11. Let it go 12 Keep it up 13 Rat trap END
MORE MORE MORE
14. Close as youll ever be 15. Great song of indifference 16. Looking after number one
whatever set list you think would make your perfect Geldof show so it might be that you would like more rats stuff than his solo work for me its this set
Assuming I can only have songs the Rats/Geldof have played live or in the studio.
Blind Date Close As You'll Ever Be Barefootin' Riot in Cell Block #9 Mary of the Fourth Form Rat Trap/Kicks/Joey (medley) She's Gonna Do You In Looking After Number One House on Fire Banana Republic Living In An Island Me & Howard Hughes Don't Believe What You Read She's So Modern Like Clockwork Someone's Looking At You
encore Eva Braun The Great Song of Indifference Fall Down (with Simon Crowe singing )
Must admit there are far more songs I'd like to hear live (He Watches It All and Drag Me Down come to mind), even a couple of Geldof solo efforts ($6,000,000 Loser/Scream in Vain); but I went for songs that were best appreciated live.
OK, were talking fantasy (carlsberg dont do gigs.....) but if they did????? The gig would have to be in the Leopardstown Racecourse! 130,000,000 - well it is Carlsberg!
Van Morrison (whatever he feels like) and Dylan (Visions of, Licence to kill and Desolation row) would do the warm up.
Dylan would stay on stage to greet Neil Young, to do "Knockin' on the dragons door"....
Neil young would stay to do "Needle and the damage done"
Tori Amos would appear to do 'Mondays'
Pink Floyd would do "Wish you were here"
Roger Waters would stay on.....
To greet Bob to do "In the Flesh (part 1)" duet with Waters
The Rest of the Rats would appear...... All of them
And Dylan... I can make it if you can Fall Down (Simon Crowe singing) The Little Death (with Mary Coughlan duet) Exit Dylan....

My fantasy set would go something like this. Maybe a few more Rats songs than people would expect.
Love or someting Love Like a Rocket A Gospel song
Banana Republic Rat Trap House on Fire
Harvest Moon Life is the Hardest Thing The Soft Soil
Elephants Graveyard Like Clockwork Up All Night
Too Late God Walking Back to Happiness Sunny Afternoon Indifference
Oh yes, and in my fantasy the guys would only be wearing strategically placed fig leafs, In Bob's case about 10 should do it. Don't shout me down for being sexist. I know I am! This is just fantasy after all.
This Is The World Calling One For Me Mudslide Like Clockwork Someones Looking Mondays Dave House On Fire Banana Republic Soft Soil Joeys On The Street Rat Trap
Lookin After No 1 When I Was Young
Huge Birdless Silence The Great Song Of Indifference
Blind Date Close As You'll Ever Be Barefootin' Riot in Cell Block #9 Mary of the Fourth Form Rat Trap/Kicks/Joey (medley) She's Gonna Do You In Looking After Number One House on Fire Banana Republic Living In An Island Me & Howard Hughes Don't Believe What You Read She's So Modern Like Clockwork Someone's Looking At You
