I cannot find out whether I am for this or not.No Bob or Pete,Johhny might turn up later. It seems like a good way for Pete and Gary to make some money. On the other hand it is exiting that The Rats are back. I am confused. What do you others think. Are you for this or not?.
I'm with you on this. If Fingers joins them it will be more exiting. Otherwise I'm a bit on the fence and can't quite decide which way to go. If all of them got together - well that would be an impossible dream!

I like the idea that there will be a band out there playing the Boomtown Rats songs live cos let's be honest Geldof doing them anywhere near you is highly unlikely. And there is the added bonus of not having to suffer Geldof's solo material. To be honest I don't care less who the line up is, it's a bonus there are two original members. If there was a Rats tribute band I'd see them.
2 B or not to B, that is the question. (sorry I couldn't resist) Do you want to be entertained by songs you feel so dear? Will the reproduction be authentic enough? Is two out of six not bad......... Or are these guys making a fast buck?
Me, I wouldn't miss ANYTHING to do with any authentic Boomtown Rats..... I hope it doesn't come to bums on seats (or out of seats dancing) to sway the rest of the band. I think they should have picked Bolton St. for the relaunch. (its a simple PR thing) It would sell out instantly. The idea of gigging around England in small venues is good.....they did it before. Especially with new material. Its the first time in 22 years someone authentic calling themselves 'Boomtown Rats' are gigging.
Go Man Go, Gary and Simon.
Nick ps. I'll have to change my by line to 'There you go, big hand for the Boomtown Rats, music has never been better' -- Edited by TheTopHat at 01:26, 2008-04-18

Arguably 2 out of 5 as Cott had left in 1981, and having 5 out of 6 didn't stop them.
I can't see anyone other than Fingers joining. Geldof & Briquette certainly wouldn't. I suppose there is the remote possibility of Gerry Cott, but I suspect that is unlikely given he has done pretty well for himself in other areas.
A Dublin date is highly likely and I would expect a pretty decent sized venue.

I went to ZZ Top years ago ''ELIMINATOR" and then I went for a late pint where a tribute band banged out a couple of their hits....there was no comparison. (don't get me wrong, the band were quite competent....but?)
Last year I went to "The Australian Pink Floyd"...........thought they were ok on the night. Then I saw Roger Waters play "Dark side of the moon". I was blown away. It wasn't Pink Floyd.... only Roger Waters , but he's a perfectionist, and it showed........ As regards a Rats Tribute band........ absolutely NO WAY! (for me).

Reunion means 'free for all', (ie. with original band members.)

It would be the best news to hear J.Fingers, G.Cott joining the reunion.
As regards the rest of the band members, make your own mind up boys.

The idea of Bolton st. was purely for press coverage, a re-start from the 'Nebula' (ie. the first point of existance). It's still possible as a photocall, but slowly, slowly is possibly better. However, yes, I'm sure Dublin will sell out at a larger venue.
Meanwhile, here's to great gigs and success for all involved..... I'll be there.
Go man go, Gary and Simon, nick

I'll be glad to hear the music. Garry and Simon are great and the others all have stuff going on. Like someone said, there's no way pete or bob will do it, and fingers is on the other side of the world. We should be glad that Simon and Garry are getting back out there as the world will be reminded of how great they were at the beginning, before bob went solo.
Well, I hadn't seen this before. I've done a search on this site and it didn't pop up, apologies if its been discussed before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbItlYDz4tE
Imagine Gerry Cott playing with Gary & Simon tour, then ahem, Fingers appears.
I met Gerry Cott once. Well actually I rang his mothers doorbell, because I knew he was in there. He came out, signed autographs had a chat with us.... he's a really great guy. But more than that he is a brilliant guitarist and should get out there gigging.

Ok, I've seen them at Bilston now. For me the Rats were at their best on the first two albums. The latter material lost my interest (and them fans). It was great to hear the early songs live again. On the one hand Bob was missed, on the other ,you cannot recreate 30 years ago, "mary of the Fourth Form" when Bobs daughters are older? A Knight of the realm screaming "I get my kicks from you"?
I saw them on the way up, and on the way down, the band had run its course long before Bob left. A full reunion would inevitably involve some Bob solo material and some "latter Rats", perversely that would put me off.
On balance the occasional reunion for one offs and festivals mustering whoever they can is probably for the best.
