Fortunately I didn't end up in Wes's boot on the way to Blackpool, but what a night!
I met Wes, Liz and BTR prior to the gig and we had a chat (and was introduced to Garry & Darren and had a wee chat as well). However the next hour or so just blew me away! It was like being transported back to 1977/1978 Sonically the Rats were immaculate. OK, they may be a little older & rounder but ain't we all?
Pete Barton was like Briquette/Geldof/Fingers rollled into one and dare I say it, spat out the lyrics far more impressively than Geldof could hope to do these days. At times I closed my eyes and it was no different , and if anything better.
And Darren Beale though he looked like he was bunking off school for the night was like Cott/Fingers and sundry musicians merged into one.
But Garry & Simon were the backbone on which it was all built on. Stood in front of Garry he showed how he was the core of a lot of the Rats sound.
Won't bore you with set list now (too pi$$3d), but essentially all the hits from 77 - 80, the first album and Dr. feelgood covers. Who could ask for more?
And if that wasn't enough Gerry Cott turned up! Wes, Liz, BTR and myself had numerous snaps with them all post-gig.
Well I am a little drunk and over excited right now and will probably be far more rational in the morning, but if you do get the chance to see the Rats anywhere in the next 12 months cancel all other engagements and see them!
Just stopped off in Wolves on the way back--gr8 to meet you all---another superb gig--post some pics when we get back from Blackpool--on our way now---Wes/Liz x
well, what a night last night seeing the rats for the first time! my very first vinyl LP ever was the classic Tonic for the Troops. last night at the 100 club brought tears to my eyes to be taken back to my teenage years. long live the rats!
Just got home.... WOW! last night was a brilliant gig!
Really nice to meet up with some fellow fans too. Great that we all get along so well, and hope that it will be one of many meet-ups at Rats gigs in the future.
All The Rats are really nice genuine blokes and they spent a lot of time talking with the fans before and after the gig.
Get along to the gigs, it's well worth making the effort to travel to see them. Book your tickets in advance to make sure the gigs go ahead and to give more venues the confidence in putting them on.
After the gig, my bro and I were on a bus going across London and decided to get off the bus and go into a pub in the Deptford area.
A band had just stopped playing at the pub, and the DJ put on I Don't Like Mondays - so I just had to get on stage and sing it over the record - I was somewhat surprised that got a good round of applause.
Ah...what a night... can't wait until I go to some more Rats gigs.
I was at this gig and by God they rocked. This gig will be in time one of the best that you should of at and I was. I have seen U2 play the Marquee in Wardour St and the Pistols play Uxbridge plus many other rare gigs and this no doubt stands amonest them. I cant wait to see fingers join the Band BUT Sir Bob you should be begging them to sing with the Band again because Pete Barton has done a brilliant job and help bring the Band to a new diamension
As Gerry turned up, do people think that there is a chance that he miht play a few gigs in the future. BTw I am planning to see them at the Leeds Irish Centre and maybe at Burgess Hill (whilst visiting the folks)
