from contactmusic.com:

SIR BOB GELDOF is desperate to improve his scruffy appearance - because he's ashamed of the impression he gives when meeting world leaders to discuss charity work.

The LIVE AID co-organiser insists he is interested in fashion despite his casual style, and he's eager to undergo a dramatic make-over before he next meets up with international politicians.

Geldof, 50, says, "I like clothes but I look cr*p and my hair is particularly pathetic. It's embarrassing at meetings with political bigwigs."

aw....I'm sure he can do something about his hair! lol

isn't he 53, not 50? good going contactmusic

A good hair cut wouldn't go amiss, that's not too difficult now is it? It must be around 18 months since his last cut, surely? Although a little messy (understatement!) when short it doesn't look as bad...

Totally confused about his age, he said yesterday on the Jonathan Ross show that he was 22 in 1975, which would make him 52. I'm sure he said he was 52 in 2003, which would make him 53 2004 (last October). Either he's shaving a year or 2 off his age or something is wrong. I know that his age is constantly misquoted, I also know that when he talks about Mary Preece at concerts and refers to the timing and his age it is slightly out and would make her 9 years old!!

yes...his reasoning behind his random age proclamations remains a mystery lol...

But just think, a dramatic make-over! wondering if he's considering undergoing other changes in addition to his hair...how dramatic will he get? lol

A tidy Bob??? what is the world coming to?

Some of us like our men scruffy. If he became a slick Rick I'd have to rethink this decades old obsession lol!

Might I say even as a wholly full blooded heterosexual male who just love Geldof's music- Roz is dead on  this time!

Our Bobs charm lays in his total disregard for conventional trappings-

Nightmare hair can be dealt with good trim and an elastic band- no hair spray.  The rest is as it is- easy as enjoying the event.

I agree with Roz - don't change a thing. I've been defending Bob's "look" for 20 odd years .

in his genes...?

Check this out, from NEWS.com.au:

WE all know the feeling. You comb it, brush it, wet it, blow-dry it ... but whichever direction you guide it, your hair goes somewhere else.

But for those who suffer the bad hair syndrome more than most, there may be some comfort in the latest discovery.
Science, it seems, has uncovered the secret of the bad hair day and it has more to do with genes than gel.

Studies using mice have identified a gene called Barx2 which appears to be crucial to normal hair growth.

Those who have it will find grooming a breeze.

Those who don't will be forever handicapped in the hair department.

The bad hair day is a phenomenon which has claimed many a celebrity victim. Actress Kate Beckinsale, singing legend Diana Ross, Nicole Kidman and Courtney Love are among those who have been caught off guard.

On the male side, Bob Geldof almost always looks in need of a comb.

The research may give them just the defence they need against charges that they just couldn't be bothered.

Barx2 was identified by experts at the University of California.

They discovered that mice without the gene were born with shortened whiskers.

As they developed, instead of growing a soft, furry coat like their contemporaries, they developed short, spiky hair which pointed outwards rather than sitting flat.

"After two weeks of normal hair growth, we noticed a transient dishevelled appearance to the coats of the mutant mice, with hairs tending to stand erect rather than lie flat against the body," lead author Michael Rosenfold said.

He discovered that the absence of Barx2 resulted in the hair follicles becoming stuck in a phase of development that did not allow normal growth.

The researchers, whose findings are published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, believe that the genes that control hair growth in mice have the same role in many other animals, including humans.

Last year another US team identified a gene called Fz6, which they concluded could be responsible for odd hair patterns from cowlicks to quiffs, bushy eyebrows and hairy chests.

Those people with Fz6, but no Barx2 may perhaps want to consider shaving their head.

yikes lol...imagine a bald Bob

I agree with Jules, a proper hair cut would do wonders for our lad.  Look how great he looked in The Wall!  You can do it Sir Bob!

His clothes are more of a style issue - he doesn't appear to have one.  Oh well, shouldn't world leaders be listening to what Sir Bob is saying, not at what he is wearing?

Just a thought.

Oh Yeah!

Here's a song for Bob.

we think he's cute,

we know he's sexy,

he got the looks,

That drive the girls wild,

He've got the moves

that really move 'em,

he set chills up and down their spines,

He's just a sexy boy

(Sexy Boy)

he's not your boy toy

(Boy Toy)

He's just a sexy boy

(Sexy Boy)

he's not your boy toy

(Boy Toy)

He make 'em hot,

He make 'em shiver,

Our knees get weak,

Whenever He's around,

They see him walk,

They hear him talk,

He make us feel,

like we're on Cloud 9,

He's just a Sexy Boy!

Stipey - you need to chill out -

Reevo was only referring to a line in The Boomtown Rats song, Charmed Lives from the V Deep album.  It was quite a good reply if you ask me.

And the sideburns, white bejeweled jumpsuit and wide belt (the classic late "fat Elvis" period look)?  I'm totally feeling Bob as an Elvis impersonator - what fun!  Definitely worth doing, at least for a Halloween sometime.

Bob as an Elvis impersonator would be extremely funny indeed. If he were to do the 'fat' Elvis, he'd have to wear an enormous amount of padding

There's something about him being horrifically too skinny to be the fat Elvis that I like.  I vote for no padding.  Too skinny, wrong accent, can't dance....uh huh.  Bring it on!

PS - there's a national (international?) Elvis competition in Vegas every year.  One of the top competitors is a black man.  He can't seem to win, he seems to be stuck being the runner-up.  I think another one of the top competitors is a woman.  Bob would be perfect just the way he is, just add the proper, stereotypical, stage clothes.

It's funny to see that people here have this crazy humor. Your are all funny, and it would be funny to see Bob as Elvis, though it is a little hard for me to imagine.

Everyone may like him now, but at the time he was a friggin' one man revolution.  It didn't get more controversial than Elvis. That's part of the reason WHY everyone likes him now, forty plus years down the line.
