Mojo (out April 6) - Rats article!!!

As I spend a lot of time in newsagents browsing, I looked through Mojo, as it had a good looking post-punk cover CD, and as I checked the tracklisting, a inset says next month's mag comes with an article on The Boomtown Rats

Check this link nearer the time.

Basically pitched the Boomtown Rats as being akin to the Pistols in Ireland and the Bay City Rollers of punk in London.  The usual story, started off with the Gay Byrne interview, having the hits,  Kenny Everett's role in Rat Trap hitting number one, blowing it in the US, Mondays, the homecoming that inspired Banana Republic and the downhill slide from Mondo Bongo to Band/Live Aid.

Perhaps the most interesting thing was recognotion the underlying friction between Bob Geldof & Gerry Cott, and dare I say it, Cott's pivotal role in the band pre-Mondo (or most markedely pre-Paula).  Most marked is the comment about the Police developing their sound whilst Bob & Paula courted the tabloids (from this? http://www.cyberspace7.btinternet.co.uk/gerry3.htm ).

Worth a lunchtime read at WH Smith's, though considering they are not even mentioned on the cover (big picture of Marc Bolan) , not really worth buying.  The article runs to 6 or so pages, and has some photos which are familiar or variants of well known picture.

Check under the free southern soul CD and you will see that they are mentioned on the cover.  Boomtown Rats, Geldof versus the Sex Pistols. I enjoyed getting this mag, not so much for the Rats stuff, but for the CD as I am bit of Northern Soul fan.

I must confess I did nick the last CD (good post-punk one) off the previous issue yesterday, as I knew the new issue would be out today.  But I feel too guilty taking them off the new magazines.  That said the cover mount DVD of loaded looks very interesting
