“I Don’t Like Deception”….

I have known, liked and admired Simon and Garry since I first became one of the most fervent fans of The Boomtown Rats many years ago; but I cannot accept that they are now performing as The Boomtown Rats and displaying posters and advertising passing themselves off as such.  This is not fair to Bob, Pete and the original Boomtown Rats or to their loyal fans.  It is not honest and it is also questionable whether it is legal.

I can't see the red bit across the middle of the poster, but doesn't it say something like featuring original members Garry Roberts & Simon Crowe?

I think they could have a better poster, without any Geldof images, which is misleading, but there shouldn't be a big problem with calling themselves Boomtown Rats.  They are original members and they play the Rats songs.

What else could they be called?   There are numerous bands out there that don't have all the original members, take Oasis, Who and Rolling Stones as examples.  Dr.Feelgood still tour with NO original members.

The Boomtown Rats no longer exist as such.  They were the greatest and cannot and should not be taken in vain.  Its fine for Garry and Simon to do their own tribute to the original Rats, but like any tribute band, they should adopt a new name so as to avoid confusion and disappointment to the true Boomtown Rats fans.  Even Bob and Pete do not now perform as The Boomtown Rats.  Although I am sure that Garry and Simon are sincere and do not want to mislead, something somewhere has gone very wrong and they are ill-advised to give the impression that The Boomtown Rats are still together.  Perhaps the bad advice comes not from the original members of the band but from newcomers with a vested interest.  In that respect the lead singer who purports to be Bob could not be less like him either in appearance or sound.

Having seen the new Rats, I disagree.  Having spoken with Simon, he believes that it was now or never if they were to comeback, and as his relationship with Geldof is non-existant, it's not as if there could ever be a full reunion.

They are not a tribute band.  With 40% of the group prior to it being disbanded in place providing the core of the sound, it is authentic.

Peter Barton does not purport to be Geldof.  He is a fine singer and bassist and his stage persona is very different to Geldof's.  He and Darren Beale's virtuoso guitar have breathed new life into many of the songs without destroying the original (except maybe Mondays which has has a total makeover).

I don't think any true fan would be confused nor disappointed. I thoroughly enjoyed their show at the 100 club during the summer, and would suggest that anyone who would want to hear the first album live along with the early hits catch the Rats on tour.
