A source has told me the album is on various memory sticks at the moment. Maybe there has been further development though since then. But I cant see September. They have laid down about 18 tracks and Bob will choose which ones he wants on the album. Some R/Roll, some Irish, some Ukelele, some fun, etc. Sounds a good mix.

Well let's hope we get to hear ALL 18 tracks one way or another. I hate to think of rejected tracks that are made redundant when they could be in our music collections.

I think the fans should vote on which ones should be on the album. If he is not sure about some, put them up on youbloom and we can have a say. Why not?

There are about 70 minutes on a single CD, so they should all fit with a little editing.

Anyway, does anyone buy CDs anymore? I do, but in the main they are the £3 or less ones they have at FOPP which are old deleted albums. Right now the one in Covent Garden has In The Long Grass CD and the On a Night Like This DVD for £3 each. Even papers/magazines have stopped giving them away.

The only new CD I got this year was Franz Ferdinand Tonight as it was a double limited edition witha dub remix. Otherwise Nada. I just listen to what I want on Spotify, so I didn't need to buy the latest Jarvis ****er album nor the Arctic Monkeys one (though doubtless when they are £3 at FOPP I will).

As for the new albums, in all likelihood I will probably buy The Rats (as an obsessive completist, but I expect it will be the first album + hits re-recorded and something I would enjoy). I may also get the Geldof one as a completist (after all I have all the other stuff twice, but it never gets played), but that is less certain.

I'm still surprised that neither The Rats nor Geldof have embraced the internet and put some stuff up for download.

It will be available on Bob's page on youbloom for download, and as info is also shortly (so I have been told) being upgraded, I presume it will be on there too.

And I was beginning to think it was a virtual illusion and there will not be an album.

I really would like to be able to buy it on CD as I like to own CDs. I usually put them on my iPod as well, but it is not the same. Will be disappointed if there isn't a pre-recorded CD available. But having some new Geldof music will more than make up for it, I hope!!

No doubt, I will get the Rats CD as well...

Vinyl - though not holding out much hope on that for a Rats/Geldof release. Converted back to vinyl since start of the year when I was given a turntable for Christmas and got Franz Ferdinand Tonight.

Another reason I stopped getting CDs is that Spotify came along and essentially had my entire CD collection plus a whole lot more. I even have a way to listen to Spotify without ads (excuse me for not revealing how in case they fix it).

The CDs I do buy are the £2/£3 ones from FOPP that I just rip to CD and also those where they are special editions with bonus CDs/DVDs of tracks I can't get elsewhere.

I think that given the sales of a new Geldof or a new Rats LP will be in the hundreds rather than the thousands, both will opt for a CD/download release.

It's an application you download onto your PC/MAC which allows you to stream music. It has millions of tracks and you can listen to them all for free. It is available in the UK and some other countries, but once you have registered you can access it from almost anywhere (including Kuwait as I have discovered).

The only snag is you get a short ad every 20 minutes or so, but there are ways around that. You can pay for premium service which is ad-free for about £10/month.

It has many current albums (the Resistance by Muse is on there and it was released today) and albums you never knew existed (how about Live From Paris by U2!) .

It is just brilliant! Get it. It will change your life

I have never downloaded in my life.It does not appeal to me.Bob must release this new album on cd(or vinyl).I will be gutted if Bob only releases this as a download.

I will admit I have never paid for a download, and yet have stayed legal (well pretty much). There are millions of tracks out there that you can download often freebies from the band them. While I have downloaded on occasion I would definately prefer a CD version. I like getting my inlay cards that come with CDs.

Ah thanks but as I buy alot of CD's you would be very busy LOL. Get most of them for less than 10 on Amazon thanks to our lovely recession. There has to be an upside to everything!

Right now I spend about £2 or £3 for albums at FOPP. All new deleted albums, mainly vinyl, but some CDs. Given I haven't liked too much that has come out in the last three or four years it's ideal for me

A lot of what I buy is actually stuff released years ago where either I'm buying more stuff from people I like but only had a greatest hits or replacing old tapes. With the exception of Green Days new offering I think the last new release I bought was Bruce Springsteen, Working On a Dream & I think that was the end of last year. Reading down the upcoming releases the only ones to catch my attention are Snow Patrol & the 40th anniversary edition of Space Oddity.

Bowie has had a patchy re-release of his 70s albums. Ziggy, Aladdin Sane and Diamond Dogs all got 30th anniversary re-issues that was really good yet none of the other albums did. There were also two lots of re-releases, the initial ones (circa 1990) had bonus tracks, whereas the remasters (circa 1999). Such a shame they don't do a proper RCA re-issue along the lines of the Elvis 10" re-issues in recent years (cos Bowie did his best work on RCA).

Maybe this 40th anniversary of Space Oddity is the start of a proper re-issue of Bowie material ( A four CD version of Station to Station is in the offing).

Also for those that care, U2 are issuing a super deluxe re-issue of The Unforgettable Fire at the end of October. It always seemed odd that everything up to the Joshua Tree bar this had got the deluxe treatment (including Under a Blood Red Sky). I think The Unforgettable Fire is their best album (well certainly has their best song).
