PBS yesterday from 2-4pm eastern time showed highlights from Live Aid As I've never seen anything from it other than some very small clips, I was thrilled. Luckily PBS did decide to include the BTR as one of their selected highlights, singing "Mondays"
It was shown as part of PBS' annual fundraising pleas. Interestingly (but not surprisingly), the fundraising retards never mentioned the BTR as a highlight to look forward to ("coming up next, we have eric clapton and queen"...I watch the next segment, the BTR perform in addition to the other artists...figures). And, they said "for the grand finale, we'll be showing Paul McCartney singing Let It Be, backed by David Bowie, Pete Townshend, and [that other woman that I don't know at all]" - - - didn't mention Bob, yet he was there too of course!
Luckily they did mention his names a couple of times, saying that he created Live Aid to relieve African poverty, etc. And actually I believe they got a fact wrong (if I heard them correctly) - it sounded like the dude said "and before Live Aid even existed, Bob Geldof and his team created the original song to first raise awareness to African poverty: We Are The World." Um, no dipsh!ts.
They were also giving 'thank you' gifts for public pledging. Wow get this, if I pledge a mere $200, I get the 4 DVD Live Aid set for free! ... ... mhm. no. for $100, one could get the We Are The World making of DVD, and for $35, a Live Aid pin. Let's see, I donated approximately...!... nothing. I'd buy that stuff off of Amazon before donating that much to PBS, who also kept mentioning how financially well they were doing, so how bout no.
main point is, I saw some of Live Aid finally, including the whole Bob on Pete and Paul's shoulders thing...aw
Oooooh, sorry I missed that (I'm in Maryland US) because I've not seen Live Aid either! Hopefully they'll run it again this week? I'm glad they felt it would bring donations, but I can't really afford them either! They're a bit pricey!!
Donations are not "pricey." Donations are gratefully accepted in whatever amount you choose. It only gets expensive when you want a gift in return.
Support PBS or don't support PBS, but to decide not to support them financially AT ALL simply because you think the donation needed to get a free DVD is too high...that's absurd.
I've never donated to PBS in my life, so, I wouldn't have anyway, gifts or no gifts! Nothing against them, just not something I'm passionate enough about to donate. eh.
