Just heard on the news that Geldof has axed himself from the live 8 playlist because he apparently doesnt sell enough records to justify sharing the stage with the likes of Madonna. Im finding it hard to see his reasoning behind this, and I know that the media has given a bit of a hard time about performing at live 8 but he's always stood up to the media so why give in now? From my point of view I see it the other way around, Madonna and Robbie Williams etc should be honoured to be sharing the stage with the legend that is Bob Geldof. Yes granted he may not sell as much music as they do anymore, but then again he isnt actively pursuing a music career as the other artists involved are because he's to busy trying to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of children. When live 8 was first announced there was a lot of pressure from the media to have acts from live aid like status quo on the playlist, and pink floyd have reformed for it, so why shouldnt bob be there as well? He performed at the last one so why shouldnt he perfrom at this one. And at the end of the day he's the brains behind all of this, so why on earth shouldnt he perform?
Anybody else agree with me on this? And the live 8 organisers dont seem to have a contact address or anything so does anybody know of an email contact for them or anything? Would be grateful if you could post it if you do. Thanks.
i dont have an email address for them but i do agree that bob should be up there on stage on saturday! i completely agree with you. Is it true that bob will be performing at the show on the 6th insted of the 2nd?i hope it is true he deserves to perform!
I'd love for him to perform too but I think he's going to be really busy!!I have worked as a street vendor at festivals, it was really hard just doing my own little table & getting it set up on time. Just imagine the Live8's! How could he perform on a schedule?
Yep totally agree, im up for a petition, although with only a few days to go not sure that there would be the time to do anything, and he seems to be the most difficult person to contact, so dont know how we could send it to him anyway. Im lucky enough to be going on Saturday, and Bob Geldof was the one I was most looking forward too!
Maybe he will do an off-the-cuff duet with U2 or something, guess we will find out soon enough! I agree with motema2004 that he's going to be really busy, but he found enough time at live aid to go on stage, so Im sure he could fine enough time at this one!
I guess he knows best and has his reasons, I just hope that his reasons arnt because of the media being sarcastic about him performing.
I shall be there on Saturday too. I don't know how many people would want him to perform but it would be good if we could all chant, 'we want Geldof to sing' or something like that!!
I did try to set up a petitionn last week on my webspace in my ISP but it isn't something that can be contributed to, so no point!
well if i hear any chanting i shall join in with you! (and i'll make my dad join in too!) Hope you have a good time on saturday. Dont suppose you know if we are allowed to take blankets to sit on (it just says no chairs on the tickets) cos 9 and a half hours is a very very very long time to be standing up!
On the bbc website it says 'sunny intervals' and maximum temperature of 24oC. So basically I think its going to be quite muggy and the weather on tv earlier said that there might be some rain too.
Notice your picture with geldof *jealous* I was most definately born in the wrong era, Im only 16 but I love the boomtown rats, Queen, pink floyd etc. Not fair! Wish I could of been there at live aid, would have loved to see freddie in action. Hopefully live 8 will be just as good though! Hope its a friendly crowd and a nice atmosphere.
"So ya thought ya might like to go to the show? To feel the warm thrill of confusion, that space cadet glow? Tell me, is something alluding you sunshine? Is this not what you expected to see? If ya wanna find out what's behind these cold eyes, you'll just have to claw your way through this disguise!" - Pink Floyd (Bob Geldof), Pink Floyd: The Wall
If everyone chants, I think he'll have to sing! I just don't think he'll be able to do much other than deal with the organizational duties of the day, but I hope he does sing a little!!! What a time will be had!
He's going to sing in Edinburgh at Murrayfield though!!!
I'm sure he'll take the stage at some point on Saturday and you lot will get the chance to chant. I'll be chanting from my place in front of the TV at home.........
It is a shame he isn't going to sing. From the rousing applause he got at U2 on the 19th when Bono announced he was there, I'm sure everyone would want him to although I do understand his reasons.
I'm going prepared for all possible weather, lol! Just hope it's not as hot as it was at Twickenham! Jules and I were nicely cooked that afternoon
WE KNOW BOB HE WILL DO SOMETHING! U2 singing [I dont like mondays ] bob helping out when he,s not saving the world would do! Long livesir, saint ,king ,bob geldof.
ps
dont forget! pete, alan, john, bob[ vince lovepump ] great band!!
Im sure he will show up on stage to talk at some point, he cant not really, but would just be nice to hear him sing! Very excited about it though! (sorry to rub it in to those not going!)
Those of you who are going, what are you taking? Are you gona take a blanket to sit down on or anything or do you think its a stand up shoulder to shoulder job?
Looking forward to hearing your chanting!!! lol. And hope nobody gets cooked!
Have you seen the Daily Mirror today, some journalist has given each artist marks out of 10. He gave Geldof 4/10 saying he should have kept his promise not to play. Well the crowd didn't think so, they gave him a very warm reception indeed.
Well I very much doubt that the journalist was actually there then! And he is quite obviously deaf as he failed to notice the huge cheers, the crowd singing along with every single word of the song (and may I add nearly every single person in a crowd of over 150 000 people knew the words) and of course Sir Bobs fantastic voice.

If he had done Do The Rat, he'd have got 10/10. About time Mondays was retired. Even my missus couldn't believe she was hearing that again.
I've been a fan of Bob's for many years and bought his records and books but by going on stage to play showed that he's in it for himself and it's all an ego boost.

oh come on...going on stage showed that he's doing Live8 for himself? I'm starting to wonder if you're really a geldof fan after all? I've said it before, and will again, it is not logical for a person to organize something as huge as Live 8 to boost their confidence. If that's what he wanted he could've gone to a spa..bit more relaxing really..
