I live in the U.S. and everyone in other countries seems to think that we have unlimited money to give away. There are alot of people in this country (myself included) that have a hard time hearing about how the U.S. needs to do more for these other countries when people like me are truly struggling just to stay afloat. It breaks my heart to see anyone suffer or die because they lack food and medicine, but it happens in this country too! We to have corrupt people in government that help the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor.
My real comment, and question is alot of celebrities want the U.S and other countries to just wipe away the debt owed to us, and to give more aid. That raises taxes here and means that alot of programs that we need to help our own poor and sick will be cut to give to aid somewhere else.
How do I go about finding how much of their own money celebrities like Bono and Geldof give? I always wonder what the truly rich actually give. Doesn't anyone else wonder this? Do they only give their "celebrity appearance" and feel that by giving that it is enough? Or do they give alot of their own money? Is there any way to find out how much they give to charity? I know sometimes magazines here will list what some of the stars give. The rich here also get to write off charitable contributions so it makes the taxes lower for the corporations and the rich. This post is in no way a mean spirited post, it is just a question.
