I was kind of caught between who was the best. I kind of know that most of you guys would say the one and only Bob Geldof, but who was second best? Or best depending on what you think?  Please tell me, i would like to know your ideas.

  Thank you...mouse

Btw...i put that U2, and Annie Lennex were the best, though UB40 were quite good! See, im spoilt for choice!

I couldn't care less about Pink Floyd.

I'm not sure who I'd consider "best" -  so I'll write about what were the biggest surprises for me.  These artists utterly transcended my expectations and completely blew me away:  Annie Lennox, The Dave Matthews Band and The Who.

Other surprises:  Maroon 5 for not completely butchering "Rockin' In The Free World" even though their playing it was heresy to begin with; Richie Sambora for bringing the fact that he's a sex machine to my attention (not really being a Bon Jovi fan, I never knew!), Die Toten Hosen because I thought they were cool even though I hadn't the faintest idea what they were saying, Travis because I had no idea who they were and it turned out I really liked them - which is also true for Audioslave.

Rock n Roll hair award goes to Boyd Tinsley (violin) - Dave Matthews Band.

Design award goes to Willie Williams for the Sgt. Pepper opener.  Brilliant.

oh I'm sure Bob would be first for me...if I actually saw his full performance...

I've mentioned some of these already under the bad US coverage thread, but again:

- loved Pink Floyd, esp. Roger Waters' attitude

- pleasantly surprised by George Michael coming on to sing with Paul

- the finale after Bob came on

Pink Floyd, absolutely no doubt. I was absolutely transfixed. I had my fingers crossed for Comfortably Numb from the moment they came on...and when it came it didn't disappoint. I know it's been said by a lot of people about different acts that day and usually I dismiss them as exaggerating but by the end of Comfortably Numb I had hairs standing up on the back of my neck.

Loved it and will never forget it!

Yep, Pink Floyd, with The Who a close second with Robbie Williams.

Gotta be said, these guys do it live oh so well.

REM and Robbie Williams at Hyde Park.

Definitely Bob Geldof at Murrayfield though. And that's not just my (biased) opinion either. We were in Edinburgh Dungeon the following morning when the scary judge called a woman from the tour group into the dock and asked her where she'd been last night. She told him Murrayfield and when he asked her what the best act had been she said "Bob Geldof". I let out a cheer! The woman and her husband said they normally hated Bob's singing voice, but had to say they thought he was amazing on the night.

At breakfast in a B & B totally filled with people who'd been at the gig, the word was the same. Nobody seemed to know "The Great Song of Indifference". They (mostly English) people thought it was an Irish folk song...........but they said it didn't matter that they didn't know it, it was wonderful anyway! From where we sere sitting in the stand we could see people on the pitch jigging about like mad.

Needless to say all The Thrills fans were very pleased with Bob's introduction of their band. I overheard a woman in an Edinburgh shop saying that the lead singer of The Thrills is so gorgeous they shouldn't allow him out on a stage!

Bob for sure was one of my favourite (Thats not even a biased opinion, I really did love it)
And then my other favourites were U2, Madonna, Robbie was good, Coldplay and Richard Ashcroft were really good too. I think there were alot of good artists that day.

It helped me see a lot of starts that weren't broadcasted, like a-ha and Deep Purple. It is a nice alternative.

U2 were fantastic!! Btw, camilladk, One was played (their last song, just b4 they broke into unchained melody) - it's just there was a bit of a long speech section before the boys broke into it properly
