hi everyone I was just wondering will the new Geldof single get much radio play. I suppose if its really good it will get some in the UK/IRE on BBC RADIO 2 , maybe BBC 6 Music, RTE . Hopefully it will be good enough to reming people that he can write decent tunes every now and again. He may be "big " in Scandanavia and Germany too, but I dont know about radio play there.
hi LAIBACH- I presume he will release a single to promote the new album otherwise how can anybody know what its like. I dont have any solid info yet on which track but Im sure we'll know sometime soon. I was being speculative or presumptious!
It would be good if he released a single as there would no doubt be a few extra tracks but not all artists release singles nowadays. Pale White Girls was released as a single from Sex Age and Death but if memory serves me correctly it came a while after the album was released.
4th Oct BOB GELDOF Silly Pretty Thing (Island) From Geldof's new album How To Compose Popular Songs That Will Sell, this is a promising return that, while unlikely to win over a new generation of fans, will connect with his existing fanbase

Somehow I doubt it will be on any UK Radio station. Might have stood a chance of Jonathan Ross playing it on Radio 2, but I can't see any mainstream radio play. They don't play The Boomtown Rats, so why would they play Geldof? XFM have never forgiven him...

Can't see it getting much airplay here in Ireland either. Possibly Dave Fanning might give it a couple of plays but since they play nothing but chart trash in the main I can't imagine it will make it onto the playlist.

Chart trash? I really ain't got a clue what is in the charts. Had a look at the top 100
http://www.theofficialcharts.com/singles-chart/ and only recognised a handful of songs, and those that were Muse, Kings of Leon, They Might be Giants and Boston! All of them are as old as the hills. Not sure charts are that relevant, lots of radio stations just ignore them nowadays.

Stupid question but why are Boston in the charts with More Than a Feeling? I have just watched the film Men Who stare at Goats, and this Boston thing is driving me mad this evening! I found out why Birdhouse in your Soul is in the charts, but no logic behind Boston.
It will most likely be a radio-only promo single, maybe with a low budget video (like Pale White Girls) But if we buy copies on itunes etc we can get it charted and people will take notice of the album :)
HI AGEEE- about songs becoming hits through ads It seems its the way to go. IF i hear a song on a ad it nearly always puts me off a band. Two of my favourite bands have used songs in ads- The Only Ones Another Girl Another Planet and Clinic from Liverpool used The Second Line for a well known brand of jeans a few years ago. I think Peter Perrett said it paid well and kept him in you know what for years which if why he looks so healthy!Anyway Bob Geldof would never sell out!
