Delays between albums

hi everyone I was wondering why Bob did not follow up SAD fairly quickly with another album- there an old adage Strick while the iron is hot. SAD got good critical reviews and a nine year delay is a long time. If a year is a long time in politics etc. Paul Weller seems prolific but then hes not  off saving the world. I suppose if Bob was releasing albums people would accuse him of cashing in on his charity work. Seems you cant win.

It may have got good reviews but i don't remember it selling well. Add to this cancelled gigs due to lack of ticket sales and it wasn't a great time for Bob's fans. But then i don't think Bob could care less if it sells, i reckon he only releases stuff for his own satisfaction.

hi Ian thanks for replying- you might imagine Bob could put his mind to some inventive ways of selling his music seeing that hes a bit of a wheeler dealer . I agree that he seems to write music solely for perhaps psychological exhorcism of his demons, which is fair enough. Also he tends to play in tiny out of the way towns rather than in big UK cities -has he never heard of Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow ,Bristol even that london! Surely big city gigs around the uk/ire would be in order. Anyway I for one am looking forward to the album.

Suppose he didn't follow it up cos he couldn't be bothered!     Yes, it's great that Weller & Elvis Costello can put out records on an almost annual basis.  I just think Geldof doesn't have music as his priority.  Interestingly, George Michael is about as prolific.  May have something to release about his experiences in clink.  I'm planning to write a load of graffiti....

The last gig in that London was postponed.  Not planning to open old wounds here but Geldof has been booked into venues that would be bigger than he could reasonably expect to sell given his current standing, especially given the cost of the tickets.  Doubtless a pile of grief will follow, but Geldof should be looking at playing the 100 club rather than the O2 Shepherd's Bush.
