Since everyone in India, including the press thought they were watching Bob Geldof and the Boomtown Rats, maybe the band should have a new name. They have had a few over the years. Any suggestions??
I saw that the report said with the Boomtown Rats but didn't want to be pedantic and post a reply. It also called one of the songs "Everybodys got a home to fill " which is an interesting take on it. Maybe something was lost in translation.
What was Geldofs band most recent name?
I'm sure I can come up with a few names but like those crossword puzzles it may take a bit of time for the right answer to occur. Does a new name make much difference at this stage I wonder?
Wonders if musicians change from time to time in which case perhaps there is no band as such, more session players.
Not that I've got a clue, just wonder if its a different sort of set up to the way boomtown rats worked.
Imagines different sort of way of communicating.
Bob's band are more about the musicians and less about the attitude and personalities involved behind the music and behind the scenes. I would guess so anyway and also less about input from members of the band. To give them a name would mean that they are sort of married in unison yet i suspect it's more the music that brings these people together and a common respect for eachother as professional musicians less than personalities with a bit of punk attitude.
I would imagine were the band to be given a name a different set of dynamics would prevail within the band and as I often hear, bands members are notorious for having falling outs and disagreements, perhaps its just easier and simpler to come together as individual musicians with one focus which is to support Bob. Rather than say personal relationships, and more professional instead.
However I could be guessing a complete load of bollocks, anway was just wondering.

No Joan you make complete sense.
All I know about Bobs band is that Pete Briquette is in it and that is a minor link to the original Boomtown Rats.
No matter what the name they will be Geldof's backing band of competent if rather anonymous musicians. I can barely string a few chords together on the guitar so I'm one to speak!
Good one Jules. Those vegetarians never stay the course and eventually succumb to the need for proper food.
How about the IPC Subeditors after the brilliant song by Clinic IPC SubeditorsDictate Our Youth.
IPC is the organisation which publishes NME and numerous other music publications and when they see the name associated with Geldof they will be suitably unable to ignore the band and also unable to criticise it!
