Johnny Depp, the star of Charlie and Chocolate Factory and Pirates of the Caribbean, is taking a break from filming to narrate a Radio 2 programme dedicated to his hero James Dean.
Depp, 42, a committed Anglophile who has already starred in episodes of the BBC comedies The Fast Show and the Vicar of Dibley, agreed to present the documentary after being approached by Bob Geldof.
...other stars have agreed to take part in the programme including Dennis Hopper, the singer Morrissey and the film maker David Puttnam.
The younger generation will be represented by Carl Barat, the former singer with the band The Libertines.
Radio 2 will add the Hollywood actor Johnny Depp to its team when he presents a documentary about the Fifties actor James Dean. The leading actor in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was commissioned to present the show about someone he sees as a personal hero by Bob Geldof, whose company Ten Alps Radio is producing the programme.
Does anyone know of any other programmes/events Bob is organising or is on?
I think Depp is quite cool cos at least he tries to be an alternative actor to Hollywood's trash. I like Morrissey's music too. I guess that is controversial as Morrissey and Geldof allegedly don't like each other. Do you think liking both is incompatible? Anyone else like The Smiths?!
Johnny Depp's a fine actor but I'll have to admit his Willie Wonka was a bit too Michael Jackson-ish for comfort!!
What's all this about Morrisey and our Bob not getting on? Or is it just one of those unsubstantiated things........."allegedly" this or that?
Was never a great Smiths fan though when Johnny Marr performed with his mate Neil Finn (7 Worlds Collide) I thought that was quite splendid. But Morrisey was the Smith's lead singer wasn't he? He doesn't look as approachable or nice as Marr. Morrisey and Marr ("allegedly") fell out didn't they? (And that was the end of The Smiths?)
Tim Burton considered Marilyn Manson for the role of Willy Wonka...my mind kept wandering to that while watching the movie. That would've been quite entertaining & good I believe. I think he wasn't chosen b/c Burton in the end was afraid that not many people would want to go out and see it. I definitly would have...heh.
