Songs dropped from original October album release?

Just noticed that How To Sell has only ten tracks. I may be mistaken but the original line up possibly had twelve songs for the October release or maybe it was my imagination.

If so we'll be getting a trimmed down version. Geldof once claimed that if you can't say it all in ten songs then you shouldn't pad it out with say twelve or fifteen songs.

The problem with this is that sometimes the "dropped" songs are better that those selected by either the record label or the artist (Geldof ) himself. It is a matter of personal preference which songs appeal to the individual so I'd kinda have preferred a longer version.

Anyway if there are unreleased songs at least they have been recorded and will eventually see the light of day. Don't think they do cd singles anymore which usually gave the b sides. Geldof and the Rats always had good b sides  so hopefully other tracks will emerge later not on the February release.

I suppose the album has to have some sort of uniformity of feel or loose theme rather that a mishmash of songs that may
not fit together in a coherent way.

Hi Derek - Bobs official site only lists ten songs and also on Amazon it only contains ten songs. You can check these sites to see for yourself!

Jules Geldof Facebook site may be of help.

A "secret track " is more commonly known as a buried track. You play the album through and think its all over, then if you've still left the cd in the stereo the extra unlisted track will come on after maybe one or two minutes.

So the thing to do is leave the cd running and you'll get to hear the extra song.

Its a bit gimmicky but I'm sure its done for some good reason.

Oh yeah its normally called a hidden track.

I wonder did the record company have the fourteen track cd manufactured and ready to go in October before it was shelved. It probably went out to various magazines to review.

Its fairly common nowadays for an initial album to come out and then later a deluxe addition containing more songs. Goldfrapp did that with their great album Seventh Tree. It contained more songs and some live versions of the original.

Thing about that is that you end up buying the album twice. Maybe judicious downloading of selected tracks in the better option.

I'm sure we'll get to hear all of the Geldof tracks eventually. Or everyone mad enough will!

Almost certainly there were downloads/streams of the 14 tracks (there is a site that journalists use for this but I can't remember its name) and most likely some CDs.   I suspect some CDs may come to light (a la SAD Too) with all 14 tracks.  So check eBay!

Maybe they did a survey of all the reviews and dropped the songs the journos specifically mentioned as not too good.

Anyway part of being a functioning human being is to trust your own judgement so who needs music journalists to do that for them?

I expect there to be maybe three or four really good tracks, four or five ok/acceptable songs and a couple of turkeys. Its the same with almost all music I listen too.

Geldof solo will never have the same impact as the Boomtown Rats in their prime and I think he knows that too- but its a new chapter in a book I have to read. I want to know what happens next I've come this far.

Haven't seen this. Is it on Ebay?

Have you heard the four tracks not features on the original album? If so a short description of what they are like would be interesting ie the style- folk, rock , punk or whatever and if you think they are any good.

Geldof has stated a few times that he recorded about twenty extra songs which did not feature on the oringinal release. This means there are a good fifteen more songs lying around still.

Whether the world is clamouring for them to be heard is another matter!
