Reference to the Ambrosia ad in recent post got me wondering if any Rats tracks had ever been used in adverts, either TV or radio. Not aware of any but what would work? (and who knows even lead to a reissue or chart entry...ok, maybe not)
I reckon some watchmaker could use Like Clockwork, perhaps Nikon or some camera manufacturer could obviously use Having My Picture Taken, Specsavers maybe use Someone's Looking At You, and Imodium could run with Can't Stop
Any other tracks that would lend themselves well to a product and lead to sales booms for the company in question??
As much as I hate music being used in ads some Rats songs which might lend themselves.....
Joeys On The Street Again- any homeless charity Keep It Up {for 36 hours allegedly } "Weekend Pill" - Cialis- Apologies to Pfizer Living In An Island - bacardi rum -other rums welcome How Do You Do - Facebook Wind Chill Factor - North Face outdoor wear Straight Up -Viagra or Cialis- tone of song probably not suitable thought Go Man Go - Red Bull or Lucozade Storm Breaks - Craghoppers outdoor wear Another Sad Story - Prozac Seroxat Paxil antidepressants
Another Piece Of Red - Crown Paints Shes So Modern- forever 21 - need to change " So nineteen seventies reference!" Rat Trap- Rentokill Mondays - Prozac This Is My Room -Ikea Sleep- Mogadon or Nytal late last Night- Alkazelser-"Was it something I ate Late Last Night......." "I'm dying.." etc.

How about ,another piece of red,for a tampon advert
I should have considered the repercussions of this topic. Won't ever be able to listen to that track again without this springing to mind!
Noel, I reckon the right backing track can define an ad and for me can make all the difference if I sit up and take notice.
Also makes me laugh that for my kids all my back catalogue is the depths of uncool, yet they latch onto ad music and get into those same tracks not even knowing they're 30 years old

Love the quote from the Guy Ritchie movie Rocknrolla- " theres no school like the old school, and I f*****g built it".
suss look what you started!
Just noticed that Clinic the liverpool indie band of Domino have a track featured on Irish tv that I used to love in the mid neneties. They say everything has a price.
Sorry have to catch the football!

Well, in 1984 Drag Me Down featured in a UK TV advert for... the Drag Me Down single! :)
Cant remember if Drag Me Down was released after Christmas 1984 and the Ethiopian famine appeal?
Think Tonight was the first single and then Dave which both preceded the situation in Africa. The record company must have been serious enough to go that far and do a tv advertisement- it normally takes a bit or organising. Don't actually remember seeing the ad- must have been trying to dislodge Boy George and Duran Duran and their ilk.
What sort of ad was it (apart from largely unsuccessful)? Band on stage, clip of live, special performance just for ad, or some wacky imagery?
Meant to say clip of video. Wasn't that the Chislehurst Caves 'miners' one?
What I do remember Noel was that single was out around April/May 84, well before Band Aid, as I was in a gap year job and tried very hard to persuade my colleagues that the song was really worth buying and should by rights be top 10. You may have gathered I wasn't working in Sales....

You guess correctly :)
I only caught the ad once, I *think* in the commercial break during The Tube on Channel 4. Lasted 10-15 seconds, clips from the promo video (down the 'mine'). Ended with captions, something like, "Boomtown Rats, latest single, out now, etc" (possibly a voice over though couldn't swear to it).
