The Rats gig in Wimborne on Friday night has unfortunately had to be postponed due to illness - singer Peter woke up this morning (Wednesday) with a virus and nasty throat infection. He has been prescribed medicine from his Dr.

More details for the rearranged date as soon as I have them.

Thanks for the forewarning.

Any word or decision date on Bideford?

Bideford is still going ahead as planned. 2 nights in a row would probably have been too much so it makes sense to do the 2nd night and give his voice a break for an extra day.

Bideford was brilliant.

Small venue which used to be a cinema apparently, which had the unusual feature of the floor sloping downwards away from the stage, but not to the extent that those at the back couldn't see. Black walls made it feel 'cosy' and the bar, well stockedwith 'Bideford Mainbrace Ale' was easily accessible while watching...a bit too easily in my case.

Would guess there were over 100 there but not quite the 150 capacity. Young local support band played, mostly their own stuff as far as I could tell but they did a great guitar version of Just Dance (Lady Gaga). Apologies but forget name of band.

Rats came on sometime after 10pm and played the 'usual' set but went down very well. Wes was dance leader extraordinaire, still proudly sporting his Wolves shirt despite getting tonked at lunchtime (and his team got well beaten too). I just stood quietly to one side and clapped politely wink

Peter's voice held out well and looked like the band were enjoying themselves. All over far too quickly as usual.

Wimborne wouldn't have been the same - there's something special about all standing venues. Bodes well for Manchester and York.

sounds like a good nite, looking forward to York. found that most of the local B&Bs booked though, found one called the Shoulder of mutton who have avaialitlity for the sat nite.

dont know about u suss but i found mostly people could not do just one night, were asking for two night bookings minimum.

I tried 3 or 4 online and found 'no availability' which usually means 1 night stays are blocked, and the couple of B&Bs I rang up close to venue claimed to be "full" for night in question. I know it's a tourist city but mid March?? Maybe the races are on or something.

I also found they wanted around £60 or £70 (there are some about a mile away Bootham part of town on north side that look to be cheaper) so in the end took the easy option of a flexible Travelodge booking about 10 minute walk from venue by looks of it. Somehow cancelling a Travelodge on the day doesn't rack me with the same level of guilt that blowing out a family run B&B would, if Peter's voice were to give out again or something.
