Does anyone know the lyrics for the third verse of close as you`ll ever be. It`s something that has bugged me for years. There is only two verse`s on the album but when they play it live(live at the music machine 1977 which is on the dvd extras) there is a third verse. If anyone can throw some light on this it would be much appreciated, thanks.
Thanks for the link arrgee, and you`re right it is a good recording and i can make out a few words but nothing more. Maybe we should ask geldof himself!!!! as he`s probably the only one who knows or maybe garry or simon?thanks again.

Logic suggests that either Bob got a good kicking from the guy on the seafront cafe and ended up in hospital or maybe the guy was a big Rats fan and was just running up to get an autograph and then introduce Bob to his pretty girlfriend who was also a big Rats fan. Then they all go to the pub. They may even have had a smallish flat in Sandycove.

Being serious I have no idea what the third verse is. I have the lazengummen Banana Republic 12 inch with Close on the B side on vinyl and also have the version of the dvd extras.
Its possible that Geldof just made up the "extra verse" on the stop that night .
ArrGee said before that live versions were better generally than the recorded versions but also the songs would have been in a continual state of flux, lyrically and musically.
Like Talking in Code, there is a third verse which was played a lot. I don't think it was made on the spur of the moment but the lyrics are not easy to decypher. Ask Geldof, he'll know. Try his fan club, they may answer.

...except that the lyrics for the third verse of Talking in Code were included with V Deep (original vinyl release did) and are now widely available online (hint: include the word 'semaphore').

Yes, I know they were printed in the inner sleeve, but just goes to show how little attention I paid at the time as I only noticed when I watched the DVD about 6 years ago. The eighties are a bit of a lost decade for me. And sadly not because of anything like wild living. Just spent all my time studying for exams...
