18 May at 7 pm is the date and time for me to rearrange my sock drawer.

Sounds like another ivory tower type discussion for the chattering classes. Yes of course Africa can/will benefit from increased computer use but like everything in that continent it will take forever for the changes/benefits to be seen on the ground.

Looking at the situation in the Ivory Coast with hundreds of people being casually slaughtered by inter tribal conflict the outside world is generally not too clued in to the affairs of various Africian countries so it has to play catch up just to understand the background to that particular situation, and again it is a matter of everything moving so slowly.

In microcosm would increased computer use/access help avert what's happening in the Ivory Coast right now or in two or three years time?

PS Of course digital technologly is more than just pc access.

I spen a lot of time watching and listening to various debates political and otherwise. Most of the time I end up confused- though I consider myself reasonably well informed.

These discussions tend to go around in circles leading largely to stalemate. Thank God for  football and sport, where things can get sorted out properly!

I'm sure somebody would like the free ticket.

PS Funnily enough, of the listed panel Bob Geldof is the only one I had previously heard of. Of course that's no reason not to know what the others stand for- I can always google them so that I can't plead total ignorance!

Due to overunning of contractual filming, Bob has had to pull out of this event.  I wonder if he is filming this programme on a famous French philosopher, in which he had the lead role?
