However, despite emailing football club who said Rats were confirmed, it doesn't actually list them as playing ...and the X Factor/BGT doesn't exactly appeal! So think I may leave buying tickets till nearer the time ...
Slightly worrying also is the Rushfest 2010 site which doesn't exactly inspire confidence:
Can't help with info about Rushfest in Farnborough. According to Rock Artist Management the band is due to play there on Mon 30 May.
The Rats are due to play at Bishops Stortford Festival, Herts, on May 1st and Cleltenham on 6 May in the general south of England area.
There is very good footage of the Rats playing in Liverpool at Matthew Street Festival in 2010 on Youtube. Loads of other bands including various trubute bands played and the crowds seemed quite big. Very good version of Lookin' After Number 1 with great vocal performance by Pete Barton- gets the spirit of the thing right without being God, er Bob, so you vould watch this in anticipation of Farnborough or any other potential gigs.
Thanks - will take a look at Youtube footage when I get a spare minute - on a slightly random note, the time listed on postings is an hour behind what it should be! I know that shouldn't bother me, but just felt I should mention it

Thanks Noel - have been having a look/listen and yes it's very good!
And the time of posting is still wrong - I posted at 6:06 not 5:06!! Sorry - I have a slight autistic trait obviously ... It's rubbed off from living with a house full of males

Glad you enjoyed it Lisa. Even better is footage of the Rats at the Big Rivers festival in Dordrecht The Netherlands 2010 on Youtube.
Apart from the great performances two things stand out- the picture quality is excellent- at least 720p going towards hd and the person who took the footage gets long lingering shots of all the band members so may have been a fan- or at least knew how to photograph a gig properly. No rubbish shaky cameras here! Again I stress the quality and care taken in recording this deserves high praise. This coverage is a lot better than the Liverpool footage.
Anyone interested can google- Boomtown Rats Big Rivers Deel 1{ Close As You'll Ever Be}
Boomtown Rats Deel 2 {Someone's Lookin'}
Boomtown Rats Deel 3 {I Can Make It}
Deel is the Dutch word part, by the way.
PS Lisa you worry about correct time- I reedit to spell Dordrecht correctly, with a h towards the end just in case any Dutch people read this. Think its called being neurotic.

At least you know how to re-edit! Maybe I should find out how to do that too ....but it took me a couple of weeks to learn how to quote from previous posts! Getting there slowly though Will look at the Dutch gig later - Easter hols and having to fight the kids for access to computer!
PS Do you really think I'm neurotic? Oh my god another thing to worry about!

Yes footage is really good - as you say, they get clear shots of everyone, though perhaps Simon needs a taller stool to get in more of them! I particularly love them doing I Can Make It - it's a beautiful song and Peter really does justice to it.
I'm far from being a techie but to edit your post you just click on the tab that says "more" and then "edit post". Naturally you can only edit your own postings.
Handy when I forget to run spellcheck or just say something that seems stupid or forget to say something or think of something clever to say, which usually occurs later.

Only for 24 hours. After that only mods can change things. Not such a good thing.
The board doesn't need much moderation these days as all the nutters have gone.
Only post anyone has objected to in recent times was one of mine. And I was in the wrong
Wonder did the forum ever have "glory years" when it was all happening and there was excellent debate? Or at least controversy.
I sometimes wonder what happened to all those people who used to post before. Seems people come and go, some never to be heard from again. I think there is only Musicmania and me from bloody Ireland. There used to be a guy called Top Hat from Dun Laoghaire, called after a music venue in that town.
The Rats got a compliment on Irish tv a few days ago. A woman in a bookshop in Dun Laoghaire was praising the writer Joseph O Connor about his edgy writing style and said his first book reminder her of "the days of the Boomtown Rats " , when there seemed to be something exciting lurking in the air being the implication. It was just a casual mention out of the blue so there is a cultural residue here in Ireland that placed the band as being part of the punk zeitgeist of the seventies.
Still waiting for the Rats lost album to be discovered in an atttic somewhere.
Its funny how the same number of people visit the sight in any 24 hours- averaging about 200 give or take.
Often wonder if the Rats were just starting out now or in the last say five years how the "new media" would impact and would Geldof be an advocate. This forum would have thousands of users for a start.
