For thoso who haven't heard it Gerry Cotts 1982 single The Ballad Of The Lone Ranger is on You Tube, heard part of it once on the radio when it was released so its great to hear it in full, good song.

Remember this got a bit of airplay on radio in Ireland back in 1982 and its a good song. Gerry's other single was Alphabet Town, which in my opinion was a better track. Gerry was, and maybe still is a fairly good singer so I've always wondered why he stopped writing original songs. Ok I know he developed an alternative career which probably paid more money-training animals for movies- but it would have been nice if he had produced the occasional album and maybe got a bit of recognition for being a pretty good songwriter. Keep chipping away at the music and maybe people would notice.
Gerry's 1982 album had the wonderful title I Left My Hat In Haiti. The album contained seven tracks and I haven't heard the other tracks apart from the two singles
Gerry also released a single in 1983 called Pioneers which I'd like to hear, maybe it will turn up on You Tube at some point.
Had forgotten about Pioneers. Again it got some airplay in Ireland around 1983.
There's a good site called MusicStack which sells old and out of print vinyl. They have loads of stuff by Gerry Cott mainly on vinyl including Pioneers listed at 3 Euros which is 2. 65 Sterling. Just google MusicStack Gerry Cott for full listings.
I have his cd Urban Soundscapes and it is a fantastic album just to chill out to.
I like this album too - as you say chill out music.
Has anyone heard music by Jiggerypipery - Simon's band. That's also really good and has some good chill out bits - though you do have to like bagpipes
I have just watched or listened to some of Jiggerypipery for the first time on Youtube and maybe unique is the word to describe them, in an interesting way, of course. Not too often that I get to listen to a band where the Scottish pipe is the most prominent instrument- but the sound is jaunty and pleasant- probably enhanced on a Friday night with a few drams of Scottish whisky.
Don't think they have a singer but it makes a change from Snow Patrol and Coldplay and the X Factor. Comes across as good time accessible folk music for the open minded.

I did listen to it doing the ironing, but I think it's rubbish!
I live in hope that the Rats make a decent record.
The mistake you made was to listen to it whilst ironing - it's chill out music, and you just can't chill out whilst ironing! Try some Jiggerypipery stuff next time - then you can jig about a bit to relieve the boredom (of the ironing, I mean)
Only have Gerry's two singles Ballad of the lone ranger & Pioneers. And due to this. I have started playing them again. Also think the B side's. Just like anybody else & Anchorman. (He never bites his lip) Are both great. Would love to have seen an LP come out. Can you get the above songs on cd?? I know you might not due to them not getting into the charts
