For some reason, over the last few months I've gone through a few small obsessive phases with Exile On Main Street, especially the track Loving Cup. I don't know why. I could, and have, listened to it over and over again. I don't know if it's the piano or the steel drums...or what.
Finally, in overload, I returned to Sticky Fingers, and (especially the back half of) Can't You Hear Me Knocking will forever be one of my favorite tracks of all time. Wyman is a genius.
Sticky Fingers is definitely in the pile that goes to the desert island with me. In my opinion, it's perfect.
So, I'll start by cheating - my track(s) of the day: Loving Cup and Can't You Hear Me Knocking. Both by the original World's Greatest Rock 'n Roll Band....(ladies and gentlemen)...The Rolling Stones.
"There are a few songs which are totally unguarded, emotionally. In this, there's a rawness I wouldn't have put on the first record. When you are in a passionate situation that is so tragic, it's hard to comprehend what has happened." - Alex Kapranos

ha...can't remember where I heard this, but it's a good come-back..someone tells you "there's no I in team", you simply go "no, but I can think of a 4-letter word with u in it"...seemed funny at the time!
can't chose one song for the day, I'll just say the entire Nick Cave album Boatmans call..
My track of the day is The Smiths - Is it really so strange. Listened to a podcast this morning with a regular music quiz where you're supposed to recognize a song. You get just two seconds of a song. Todays snip was from Is it really so strange and I've been singing it to myself all day! : )
As we've reported , Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker teamed with Johnny Greenwood and Phil Selway of Radiohead to portray the movie version of the fictional "Weird Sisters", a rock band of witches in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Well, one track from the collaboration, "This Is the Night", has found its way online ....And actually, its pretty bloody good. Full of Jarvis’ trademark crooning (albeit in a slightly more histrionic style than usual) and loads of Radiohead-equse guitar noodling courtesey Greenwood.
PS I have an MP3 if you are interested, hush hush! Send a PM if you want to know where to get it.
today, billy bragg (again) i think it's called the 'diggers' or something, 'its 1649 st georges hill a ragged band they called the diggers came to show the peoples will'
Dang, can't pick two, right? Because I'm stuck between "Scorpio Rising" by 10,000 Maniacs and "Plaster Caster" by KISS, and I'm off to a David Lynch double feature tonight at the Castro (My two faves of his - Mulholland Drive and Fire Walk With Me) and so I'm starting to get "Llorandro" stuck in my head because of it!
