There's this conspiracy... this song is played AD NAUSEUM all over north america (I hear it at least 4 or 5 times a week on my way back and worth to work)...
Little anecdote from the London trip: We're stressed as HELL going down the M4 motoroute towards our Bed & Breakfast..... trying to remember to stay on the LEFT side of the road, and to NOT side-swipe another car, from lack of depth perception driving on the RIGHT side of the car. So, we decide to break the silence of held breaths, we turn on the radio in our rented Renault... I hit "scan" on the front, and it promptly finds a staion. Guess what the song is playing?
"It's Raining Men" - The Weather Girls Thank God for my turntable. And ArrGee for the inspiration.
I'm really worried about how I inspire you. Fair enough if you headed off to the iTunes site and downloaded some Pulp, Franz Ferdinand or even The Boomtown Rats. But given that you have gone off and listened to Sting and now The Weather Girls (OK, that is a guilty pleasure of mine as well, am I gay? ) I must be doing something wrong.
As for track of the day, it comes from James Seven LP. Heavens.
"And the week before, I [Bob Geldof] was with the lead singer in James, Tim Booth, and he said to me, 'I interviewed you twelve years ago'. And I said, 'no doubt it was a brilliant interview'. And he said 'it was, you gave more time than the NME'. And I said 'that's fair enough, I'm consistent at least'. And then I said 'did you go to the gig?' And he said, 'yes, it was brilliant'. So I said, 'no doubt a seminal influence'. And he said, 'you're right. Two days later I began writing songs.'"
Bloody hell, Geldof sounded like Vicky Pollard there!
UB40 - Red, Red Wine There's this conspiracy... this song is played AD NAUSEUM all over north america (I hear it at least 4 or 5 times a week on my way back and worth to work)...
That song is NOT played ad nauseum all over North America. Might be that way in Montreal or even Quebec, or even Canada... but it's sure as hell not that way in NYC. I haven't heard it in ages.
ArrGee, you must understand, Sting & The Weather Girls are things I ALREADY OWN, no new purchases involved! And...I dunno...are you gay?
Madonna - Swim / Nothing Really Matters / Mer Girl (I've finally discovered the Ray of Light CD). I've always loved that girl (even when she annoys the hell out of me).

It's just that me liking the Weather Girls puts me in mind of In and Out with Kevin Kline when he dances around to I Will Survive (again, guilty as charged!). Still I'm no fan of Barbra Streisand, so I can't be!

Uh, oh - I'm not sure if I own I Will Survive - but it's certainly a must have, so I'l have to check.....I hope I do!!!! And another small area of agreement, while I've been told on numerous occasions that I look something like Ms. Streisand, I have zero patience for the way she sings.
JUMP-cant remember who did it originally but girls aloud covered it recently.i hate the song and girls aloud however i love watching hugh grant dance to it in love actually.its just cute
Well I was going for an interview this afternoon and I put my Thin Lizzy CD on inthe car. 'Do Anything You Want To' came on and gave me some inspiration/encouragement and food for thought. Definitely my track for today

Heavens. http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1&sku=797996 And of course we all know who inspired Tim Booth (lead singer of James), don't we ? http://www.cyberspace7.btinternet.co.uk/geldofanotherside.htm "And the week before, I [Bob Geldof] was with the lead singer in James, Tim Booth, and he said to me, 'I interviewed you twelve years ago'. Oh, I love James! And it's been too long since I last listened to any of their songs! My favourite one is "How was it for you" - *sings* Must go and put that on!
I didn't know that Bob was the inspiration for Tim Booth! Sometimes just things start to make sense after a long time...
My track of the day: Ironbound (Fancy Poultry) by Suzanne Vega
Story behind it: My husband has been to Lissabon and we watched photos last night. The line from the song "In the ironbound section near Avenue L where the Portuguese women come to see what you sell the clouds so low the morning so slow as the wires cut through the sky" kept coming into my head and hasn't left me all day.
And...drumroll please....Tom Lehrer performing at a Math class or convention or something.... http://www.archive.org/details/lehrer Thirteen minutes of heavenly absurdity, as far as I'm concerned.
Me - BA, 1977, double major in Theatre and Sociology, after flunking out of the Chemistry department. That nicely sums my affection for these two.
I almost forgot how much I love her. Must listen to Melissa more often. And remember when she blew that poor blonde teenage English girl off the stage at the Grammies? What was her name again....? MELISSAAAAA....you rock.
Still can't believe she's got Crosby's child though. Bizarre ****, what these rock stars do.
Oh, I love James! And it's been too long since I last listened to any of their songs!
James Seven was the soundtrack to our honeymoon in Hawaii. The main reason being it was the only tape we could agree on playing in the car of all the ones we had. Like the Boomtown Rats, sadly only remembered for one song, Sit Down, despite having a very good repetoire.
On that note, today's track of the day is I Spy, by Pulp. Dug out Different Class to play today and realised how good it was (however these 30 seconds don't do it full justice!) Take your Year In Provence And shove it up your ass!
I Spy is an epic ballad which casts Jarvis as a thoroughly dislikeable loveable rogue who seduces rich house-wives as his revenge on a class system that has written him off. It's a laughable and overblown piece of theatre which we should take "seriously, very seriously indeed." Superbly orchestrated in all senses of the word, a drama in several acts that come together to make what is probably Mr Cocker's best piece of songwriting to date.
Well, for a start, it's the best song on Different Class, for my money (and the money of rather a lot of other people as well). On its original release it stood proud as one of the best pieces of songwriting in a Pulp back catalogue not exactly short on earth-shattering songs. It's practically peerless. It's fantastically wry. It's astonishingly emotive. It's brilliantly written. It's flawlessly performed. It's great, alright?
basically every christmas song ever!we had a french themed party in erm well our french lesson today (we had hot chocolate and croissant!) and listened to christmas songs while trying to juggle fluffy dice
and fairytale of new york (again) i dont know if anyone saw cd:uk this morning or christmas with jonathan ross the other night but the pogues performed live with katie melua
The Only Living Boy in New York - Simon and Garfunkel
(I bought the Bridge Over Troubled Water album in the HMV sale the other day, and have decided this is the best track on the album. Could be the best track they ever recorded. Some of you may remember it from the soundtrack of the film "Garden State".)
Did anyone else see the film "Almost Famous" on TV over the holidays? There's a really funny Simon and Garfunkel bit in it.
yeah can't stand him, shane warne is it?yawn.they were all aweful this year.i stopped watching once the 2 16yr olds and the ian brown-a-like got kicked out by loui walsh.
louie louia-off the geldof in africa dvd.i know its not a proper song but it was kinda catchy.i was watching the deleted scenes last night-love the 'having a slash' one-brilliant

saw hugh lauries speech at the golden globes after winning best actor in a tv drama for 'house'.he cracks me up, he's brilliant
I made a list of all the people who deserve to be thanked, he said in his very proper British accent. It came to 172 names. Are you ready? In the end, he pulled three random pieces of paper out of his pocket (well 4 but one of them he decided not to thank)bacause he'd put them all seperate pieces, and ended up thanking his agent co producer (or something like that)and hair stylist, then went on to thank the shows writers, actors, his wife and stephen fry
what's new pussy cat.just because we had a tiny kitten dropped off at our house on saturday night cos someone found it in the road.trying to persuade my parents to let me keep it.my dads a sucker for cats so he should be easy.it's only about 6 weeks old
If there is a track out there that covers 'OMG that was a horrible day and I've now got a headache. I hope tomorrow is better.' that's my track for today...

Tomorrow is another day!
My track of the day is The Cars' "Drive". I heard it today on the radio. The pictures of the 1984 famine in Ethopia will forever be glued to my brain when I hear this one.
ArrGee, thanks for posting the links! I'd really love to hear that!
Problem is, I'm too stupid to find where to start the session...*gg* All I find is the archive itself (with an impressive list of names, omg!) and the text info about the BTR.
But where do I click to listen? Thanks for helping...
