Here's a link to Gerry Cott performing Summertime and Up The Down Staircase. Think these are from the Cobham gig. Pity he didn't do a few Rats numbers, but in a church? Finally there's Gerry's brilliant Alphabet Town from 1982/83

Noel,

Thanks for posting.

First two are definitely from Cobham concert last Nov. Hard to believe there were a good 200-300 sitting behind the camera. Apart from the playing and the anecdotes my main memory is just how quiet it was in there, in an appreciative way though.

Don't think Rats numbers would have suited the 'atmosphere' sad to say smile

I'm all for musicians being allowed free reign to do what they wish, in the name of artistic freedom [ See Bob Geldof!] so I  totally respect Gerry Cott's choice of what to play.

That said Alphabet Town is much more engaging, along with the other singles he recorded in the early eighties and he could have recorded a few decent albums in the meantime, along with his other career, and had a bigger following. Maybe Gerry wasn't too comfortable being in the public limelight as a musician- hence not following the path of a recording artist. He has a good singing voice and writes good lyrics.

Final thought I can just about hear Bob Geldof singing Alphabet Town, it does have a vague Rats feel.
