Went to the gig not really expecting much but have to confess it was brilliant.
Band played a full 2 hours from just after 8pm and got called for a second encore. Crowd was around 350 I'd guess and spent the last 45 minutes all standing, which is saying something for the normally reserved if not bordering on aloof Croydon audiences.
Set started with GSOI and final encore reprised it, and in between set flipped between Rats and solo material every couple of songs. From memory there was Joey, Mary, Rat Trap, Mondays, Diamond Smiles, When the Night Comes and Banana Republic from the old days, and Systematic 6 Pack, Here's to You, Dazzled by You, Silly Pretty Thing, Scream in Vain, Walking Back to Happiness and (a leftover song apparently) Harvest Moon from latter days. There were probably another four or five tracks at least, the names of which I either didn't catch or simply don't know, not being a Geldof sans Rats fan. No doubt Scottie, whom it was a pleasure to meet, will fill in the gaps.
Bob seemed in good spirits and humour, having several pops at Croydon between songs (easy target to be fair), and generally bantering with crowd as well as explaining story behind a few tracks. Also seemed pleased to see around 30 fans at stage door ("looks like the whole f***ing audience is here") and happily posed for photos and signed whatever people thrust at him. I unashamedly got my copy of Is That It? autographed.
All in all a great night out, I'm pleasantly surprised to say. Woudln't go so far as to say I'll rush out to get solo back catalogue, but what I heard live sounded infinitely better (more electric and bass and less acoustic and nasal vocal) than I expected. Talking of vocals, Bob certainly gave it his all and sounded quite croaky post gig, so not sure he could do a night after night full tour nowadays even if he was selling well and wanted to.
In summary, I'm actually contemplating skipping Palace cup game Tuesday to go to London gig instead, which I never would have thought possible 4 hours ago. ArrGee will think I've gone soft....
Yaah another convert. Do you think we could get ArrGee there? lol. Maybe you could persuade Bob to do some more Rats songs and drop a few solo... I'd be happy with that too.

Funnily enough I am considering missing Arsenal play Shrewsbury....
And I am able (right now - as long as someone else doesn't claim them) to get a couple of tickets for Geldof in row AA (at the front).
Do you want the other ticket? I owe you one.

Go on ski the footie for once.
I'll ski the footie as well . Not sure I could handle losing to Shrewsbury. Just depending on Royal Mail Special Delivery to get the tickets to me.

Lol my p disappeared. Can't wait to see what you think
I'm sure the show will be very good. Seeing Here's To You, Systematic Six Pack, Indifference and Scream in Vain on the set list is good as they cover most of the solo songs I like. Will be interesting to hear When The Night Comes live. Maybe he could ski (sic) Diamond Smiles and play some songs off In The Long Grass (A Hold of Me and Dave would go down well). Too much to hope he doesn't do Mondays, I guess. Knowing my luck, he play Another Piece of Cr@p, Charmed Lives and Deep In The Heart of Nowhere in its entirety.
Well I've never heard him do Another piece of whatever and Charmed Lives - so you should be safe although maybe I'll try and get a message to him to do DITHON and 'ski' the other first for you.

If Another Piece of Cr@p starts up, I'm heading to the bar! Deep in the Heart of Nowhere is a very long album that would be a hour done without the chat in between.
"When The Night Comes" "Dave" "Mary Of The Fourth Form" "Like Clockwork" "Diamond Smiles" "Mondays" "Rat Trap" "The Elephant's Graveyard" "Never In A Million Years" "I Never Loved Eva Braun"
I guess ten songs would be too much to expect this time around.
