Hi all - have guested on here a bit over the last couple of years, but today decided to join as new member. Came across this 1980 performance of 'Keep it up' on YT and thought i'd flag it up in my first post. The Rats seemed to be often on Kenny's show, this is one of their more interesting performances...with Bob not at his miming best, I suggest!
For the exceptionally lazy among us (i.e. me) is there any chance you can post a link or icon?
I'm sure I've read (prob on here) that Rat Trap wouldn't have been released as a single were it not for the interest generated by it being on KE show, and there was the alternative Someone's Looking At You video from that show as well.
Maybe KE himself was a fan, or more likely his producer
After a bit of searching I've found it. In my opinion not of the band's finest performances. They adopt a silly 1950's type look which is completely at odds with the song and come across to me a bit like some members of the Addams Family. Geldof is a bit self indulgent, hamming it up. Probably at that time pop success was going to his head so maybe its forgivable. Still nice to see this emerging after more than thirty years.
The Rats come on at 5.30 or just after. Kenny says they are fabulous a bit before they appear, and he gives the camera op a custard pie for being a bit 'butch'! Thanks to Mark for flagging this as this is something I had hoped to see turn up on Youtube at some stage and now it has.
Crikey, been on here nearly 4 years.......enjoyed/enjoying it immensely.
Think this might have been flagged up before, but worth pointing out again - fun performance with Hot Gossip of a criminally short Rat Trap that starts at 2.40 with a classic intro from Kenny Everett. "I promised you I would never bring you an act like the Boomtown Rats and this is not act like the Boomtown Rats, IT IS THE BOOMTOWN RATS!"
Nice one. Used to love this show. He always had the Rats on it They do a good vid of Someone's looking at you on it. Also like the one they did for top of the tops Both vids are much better than the one they used on the Someone's looking at you DVD
