After bands releasing albums with various covers (Saturdays, One Direction, JLS) and new versions of albums with one of two extra tracks (Arcade Fire),  this morning I came across the latest scam.

If I want to get tickets to see Sting (not really), I can get them in a pre-sale if I join his fan club.  I don't have to join as such, as I need never log in, I just have to pay the £25 Sting tax when I buy the tickets.  What a cnut.

I hate these pre-sales.  I have got sims with O2 and Vodafone and a credit card with Barclaycard to get tickets.  I'm drawing the line at paying £300 for an Amex card or joining fan clubs for aging rockers.

As if Sting was not wealthy enough.  In his favour Bob Geldof doesn't have a huge marketing team behind him so it's basically tickets for everyone that wants them. Geldof is old fashioned, in that way but maybe it would be different if his albums and tours were big sellers- then like a lot of the others the whole money thing would be more important to him, and he might employ similar techniques and strategies.

Most big time rock stars have become entangled in the whole commercialisation of music, more properly the ticket sales aspect of it- looking at Stings  forthcoming gigs, the venue's include South Africa, the USA, Sweden, Germany-so his performances generate big money.

Another one, this time it's Garrick's and Simon's former lead singer...

Tickets go on sale on Dec 2, 2011

  • April 24, 2013 - London
  • April 26, 2013 - Birmingham
  • April 28, 2013 - Glasgow

So Chris De Burgh gets hold of people's lolly for a whole 15 months before he turns up and plays.  Nice.  Wonder if he'll get Simon and Garrick to play Lady in Red with him smile

I'm no expert but was that one of the worst designed websites ever. It looks completely functional and off some sort of template that could be selling any bland product.

Probably Gary and Simon couldn't convince Chris to get into Dr Feelgood.

Chris de Burgh's music is famous for being listened to by Spanish kids to help them to learn English. Phrases like Don't Pay The Ferryman are, after all very useful when taking a ferry, across the Mersey or otherwise.

Chris might have designed it himself! It really is very basic for a well known musician- looks a bit like one of those sites that sell knocked off medicines.

Its the Footsteps album cover that dominates the page- it looks like some bland stock photo logo.

Always good for a laugh is googling ' worst websites' -it usualy throws up some very amusing sites.
