It was definitely you at Cardiff LOL! Being called a loon by Bob is a definite compliment

I looked for you in the queue on the way out but didn't spot you. I take it you were there somewhere and chatted with Bob at the end? Little old ladies do seem to adore him! They appeared in droves in Oxford and I met two in Tamworth before going to the show.

Hi Reevo, It was really nice to meet you too. I'm so jealous of your two night fix. Did you manage to get the other drum stick? (Stage Raiders Rule). Kaz.

Bob loves playing so much, this is where he feels at home.

Maybe he just needs to start doing smaller venues, maybe that sounds a bit sad but it might be the solution.

Last Tour!! Dont be saying that Reevo!! Im having such a time trying to get to any gigs- Had Tickets for Cardiff & Peterborough, should have been having your kinda weekend - But had food poisoning!! & couldn't make it ( well, not without a disinfected bucket tied to my arm.  Like most people, between songs I usually like to show my appreciation clapping and cheering - not throwing up).  Got Leadmill tickets -  Now Sheffields' Cancelled!! - Hull, on Dec 1st is my only hope at the moment, have tickets, but it seems not much luck - so just waiting for Hull to declare it's independence. 1st Law to be passed being, Anyone with Row H tickets for City Hall has no right of entry into Hull.  Sounds far fetched? the way my lucks going I believe anything... just anything is a possibility.

I think smaller venues are better.  On his last tour he played the intimate Union Chapel in London, (and had previously played school hall like Bloomsbury Theatre), but now is playing the less intimate Shepherd's Bush Empire, which in terms of venues is probably about the fifth biggest in London (Earl's Court, Ally Pally, Hamm Apollo and Brixton are the only bigger ones that come to mind).

In my experience, the Shepherd's Bush Empire is a pretty difficult venue.  Even the likes of Supergrass who I saw there a couple of years ago couldn't raise much of an atmosphere.

Personally, I think Geldof should have played something like Theatre Royal, Drury Lane (Pulp memorably played a Christmas show there back in 1994, just before they broke through, though I think like the Rats in York, concerts were banned forthwith due to structural damage) or the Forum/Astoria/Carling Islington/Coronet/Hackney Empire

Ah, those were the days!

http://yorkstudentsfirst.iainlindley.com/folklore/b-rats.html

The Boomtown Rats were the last band to play in Central Hall - making yet another contribution to the University folklore. Bob Geldof told everyone who could not see to come to the front of the auditorium and nearly 300 people surged to the front and danced on the orchestra pit cover, causing over £1,000-worth of damage. The Students' Union took Bob Geldof to court.

The year ended with a Christmas show at the Theatre Royal on Drury Lane which left the theatre with a huge crack in the balcony caused by dancing Pulp fans!

great show at peterborough. first time seeing Bob and Co Live!

Spoke to the manager at peterborough - the venue surprisingly was not sold out. Even more surprisingly Aled Jones, who was due to appear the following night sold 200 more tickets!

Shocking.

Nice to hear Bob mention living in Cromwell Road in Peterborough in 1969. Its where I was born and lived (albeit 8 years after bob)

my nephew aged 9 enjoyed it too!

I prefer the smaller more intimate venues also. I think Bob has made a mistake not doing Wimbledon and doing Shepherd's Bush instead, not least because I had tickets and can't go to Shepherd's Bush. But seriously, if he can't sell out the big venues, what's the point in doing them and then cancelling because he's only sold 400 tickets? Madness!

The atmosphere at the smaller venues is so much more personal. I love it.

I agree. Hay, Ludlow and Newtown all were sold out and the atmosphere was amazing. Kaz.

Lets hope there are no more cancellations.

So glad to hear you all had such a good time last weekend. I've been off line due to a broadband collapse for about the last week so am only just reading all of the reviews.

I just hope the Dublin gig goes ahead as planned.......I'll be so sad if it's cancelled.

I'd tend to agree about the venue size thing. We saw Bob at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast a few years back and did thoroughly enjoy it, but would have to say, because the place is so spacious (confy seats and legroom +++) and was only about two thirds full, it was a little lacking in atmosphere........particularly when compared to seeing Bob at the Elmwood Hall (much smaller and packed out) a year later as part of the Belfast Festival.
